On Saturday 19 May, members of the Iraq Veterans Against The War (IVAW), including former Marine Sergeant Adam Kokesh, participated in a peace march and die-in coordinated by the Ansbach Peace Coalition. This demo was just one in a series of demonstrations in the Ansbach week of action, which will culminate in a rally outside the gates of the US barracks in Ansbach-Katterbach on Thursday 24. Construction was held up on Fri 18th on the controversial M3 in the Tara Valley by a peaceful demonstration. A small group of concerned active citizens congregated at Rath Lugh at 5:30am. When workers arrived at 6:10am, they were unable to get their vehicles on site and gathered on the N3. The workers seemed unaware that the carpark they were using is the newly closed archeological site at Roestown. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Please come to Shannon tomorrow 19 May 2007, or any other day of your choice, to protest against the human rights abuses being facilitated on a daily basis at Shannon airport. In January 2006, I formally requested the Irish Human Rights Commission to investigate the use of Shannon airport for the purposes of facilitating the US Rendition for Torture programme and the transit of US troops to unlawful wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. On 17 May 2007, 17 months later, I received a reply from the IHRC saying that they had decided not to investigate any of the issues I had raised with then. The IHRC has just decided that it "was not EXPEDIENT to investigate torture and for the abuse of Shannon airport to facilitate the US war against the peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan. I call on all the Human Rights Commissioners to resign from the Commission because of your failure to investigate the abuses of Shannon airport and Irish territory for the purposes of committing and facilitating gross human rights abuses. ... read full story / add a comment

Syttende mai (May 17th) is celebrated by Norwegians in Dublin to mark the anniversary of the signing of the country’s first constitution, and independence from Sweden. Of all the countries in the in the world, Norway has one of the highest standards of living. To a great extent, this is because of the country’s natural resources, which are carefully managed through the state company Statoil. Statoil owns a chunk of the Corrib gas field and is working on getting more gas from under the sea off the west coast, so Ireland's natural resources are also playing their part in raising the living standards of the Norwegian people. Once again this year, activists from Shell to Sea joined in the festivities, distributing flags and leaflets to the Norwegian people and raising awareness of the fact that the Irish establishment are not doing such a good job of looking after our natural resources. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()
