Congrats to Mary Kelly for a fine job done. Hope there'll be a good turn-out at the demo / vigil at Limerick Prison tonight (9pm Thursday). To call Blair a mere "poodle" is to allow him distance from the killing of innocent Iraqi men, women and children for which he will share responsibility. He is the embodiment of the most dangerous appeasement humanity has known since the 1930s. The current American elite is the Third Reich of our times, although this distinction ought not to let us forget that they have merely accelerated more than half a century of unrelenting American state terrorism: from the atomic bombs dropped cynically on Japan as a signal of their new power to the dozens of countries invaded, directly or by proxy, to destroy democracy wherever it collided with American "interests", such as a voracious appetite for the world's resources, like oil. When you next hear Blair or Straw or Bush talk about "bringing democracy to the people of Iraq", remember that it was the CIA that installed the Ba'ath Party ... read full story / add a comment

Dear All I just heard (was I dreaming?) that the 15th February anti-war rally has been BANNED by the Dept of Culture, Media and Sport on grounds of health and safety and because of the weather. First they plan to ban strikes (firefighters), now they ban dissent! How can any self-respecting democrat now support Blair? First they came for the terrorists, then the asylum seekers, then the trade unionists, now.... the people. Where is this government going? As Harold Pinter said at the Stop the War parliamentary lobby last week, we have an obligation to resist. These words are more true today. Over to you STWC leadership. ... read full story / add a comment

national / miscellaneous Wednesday January 29, 2003 - 17:58 by Colombia Report
Millions of people rely on mainstream news sources to educate them on world events and foreign policy. Therefore, if the only explanation of the Colombian crisis provided by these sources falls within consistently selective standards that omit more than half of all violence, and show guerrilla attacks and the arrival of U.S. troops with no contextual analysis, escalation of the conflict will continue unchallenged. ... read full story / add a comment
