Corks Home Helps, members of the Independent Workers Union, took to the streets on Saturday in a march against the health cuts. The march was called because the Southern Health Board has been cutting Home Help hours. The workers are very often the only support and aid many elderly and infirm people have. Its a nasty cutback that hurts the old and effectively cuts workers wages.
An angry march of about 200 people wound its way through the cities streets led by the Home Helps ection of the IWU. Contingents from all left parties and groups also participated. ... read full story / add a comment

Car Free Day was celebrated in more than 1100 European cities and towns and even some in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia and Taiwan. Monday 22 September was the first time this 3-year-old event fell on a working day. Whereas most main cities in Europe closed off entire sections of the city, the Dublin City Council closed off no roads this year. To add to this their publicity of the event was so bad that most people were unaware it was Car Free Day. ... read full story / add a comment

Thursday September 25th saw solidarity blockades taking place in at least 3 local communities that I know of. Stoneybatter, Finglas & East Wall all blockaded trucks for periods of time this morning. Another was scheduled for the early evening in another area of the city, although I have heard no news of that. These are only the actions that I know of through personal contacts so there may have been more in other areas. This is an account of the Stoneybatter blockade which I took part in. ... read full story / add a comment
