Any electrician knows that Lego bricks are genderless, not 'heteronormative', because each can 'mate' with any other. Perhaps Science Museum staff should study to be electricians and actually make themselves useful.

Any parent can currently withdraw their child from school if they're unhappy. Labour's Schools Bill ends that right for many, giving local authorities a veto. That's why all parents should protest against this state power grab.

A BBC Spotlight Special is to be screened tonight which investigates allegations of collusion in the Armagh, Tyrone and border counties in the 1970s. The programme will focus on the activities of a group of loyalists, and members of the RUC and UDR, who operated from a farmhouse in Glenanne, Co Armagh.

The activities of the group, some of whom were involved in the Dublin and Monaghan bombings, has been the subject of research within the PFC for the past four years. Earlier this year the PFC made a written and oral submission to a Joint Committee of the Oireachtas, the Irish Parliament, which held hearings into the Barron report into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

It is believed that a number of key members of the gang will be named in the programme.

See www.serve.com/pfc for background on the Barron Report and the PFC submissions.

Approximately 150 people gathered today in Guildhall Square, Derry in a show of solidarity with Iraqi victims of British military violence. The crowd gathered around a large black cloth map of Iraq as they listened to families read accounts of how their own relatives were killed by the British military in Derry and Belfast. The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul has urged people to make waste collection charges an issue in the local elections.

The charity has said increasing numbers are calling its helpline for assistance due to the privatisation of public service providers, which refuse to offer waiver systems for those on low incomes.

Society Vice-President John Monaghan has said people who are not even on social welfare are contacting them. "At the head office on the Cabra Road, which only deals with the Dublin area, the number of calls to the society in April 2002 was about 350 in a month. In 2003 it had gone up to 550, and April this year it had gone up to over 1200. Many of those were first time callers, people who are in work but on low pay and are struggling." ... read full story / add a comment

In the run up to the Mayday protests, the Dublin Grassroots Network suddenly leapt to prominence and almost became a household name. However, despite all the coverage, there was little examination of the nature of this network that organised most of the Mayday protests. This text briefly describes the network, where it came from, who is involved, how it works and where it is going. For those who want to find out more or get involved, there is a public meeting at 2:30pm on Saturday May 22nd in the Teachers Club on Parnell Square, where we will be talking about the good and bad of the Mayday weekend and our plans for the Bush visit. More details at the link below. ... read full story / add a comment
