Today Saturday 3rd October, activists from the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign and the Irish Anti War Movement engaged in a leaflet blitz outside the Jervis Centre in Dublin. The campaigners were highlighting the presence of an Israeli stall in the Centre that is selling ‘beauty products’ from illegal Dead Sea settlement-colonies in the West Bank. ... read full story / add a comment

I am writing this article to draw attention to the fact that vegetable growers can no longer be sure that farmyard manure, (including horse manure), is safe to use. There have been huge problems since last year where contaminated manure has led to stunted and grossly deformed vegetables in thousands of gardens, allotments and farms across the UK and the US, and now Irish gardeners are starting to be affected too. Potatoes, tomatoes, peas, beans, carrots and salad vegetables are all vulnerable, and there have been reports of damage to onions, leeks, raspberries and even a newly-planted tree; though, worryingly, some vegetables such as courgettes appear unaffected when grown on the same contaminated manure.

Taking advantage of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's appearance at the UN in New York, thousands of Iranians from all across North America and beyond held two days of spirited protests against this icon of hate for many millions of their countrymen. They included a wide range of people, including many veterans of the 1979 revolution driven into exile, and U.S. and Canadian-born youth of Iranian descent awakening – and sometimes reawakening their elders – to political life. They also represented a broad range of political opinion, with a strong showing of forces identifying with the pro-Islamic Republic "Green" reformist opposition of presidential candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi, as well as revolutionaries, communists and many others against both the Islamic regime and U.S. imperialism. ... read full story / add a comment

On Monday 28th September 2009, 18 Shell to Sea campaigners with strong links to the Rossport Solidarity Camp appeared at a special sitting of Belmullet District Court to answer charges relating to protests staged on land and at sea in May and June of this year at the Shell site, Glengad.

Six of the cases were adjourned to November 11th because of High Court proceedings initiated by those six, to have charges withdrawn. One other case was withdrawn by the state. One individual was convicted and fined, another plead guilty and had the charge struck out. Seven others had the charges against them dismissed. ... read full story / add a comment

Air France, Ryanair, US Warplanes Hercules C130 and Omni Air Shannon 26 Sept09

This weekend, Shannon airport was almost deserted of civilian air traffic. However, its transformation into a WARPORT is no longer just a slogan, it comes close to reality. On Saturday the usual OMNI Air US troop-carrying planes were joined by a Hercules C130 probably transporting munitions to the US wars on Afghanistan, Pakistan or Iraq. An oil-tanker was docked at the Shannon airport Jetty delivering aviation fuel to fuel the aircraft including the warplanes. On Sunday Top-Oil oil company was refuelling another Hercules C130 in the centre of the airport. An Irish Army patrol performed security duties, instead of arresting the potential war criminals.
