Last week a non-national was stabbed in the eye in Mountjoy Prison.
There was some media coverage which stated that his injuries were
not life-threatening. He had been stabbed and beaten.

He had been incarcerated for the murder of his wife 24 hours before the incident.

Early this morning, the death of paul Douch took place in the lower wing of the jail.
He had requested to be moved into the protective wing twenty four hours before his
death. There appear to be three separate inquiries into his death. ... read full story / add a comment

AT THE Stop the War Coalition (STWC) Steering Committee on 15 July in London a resolution was moved by a UNISON delegate on developments in Italy and, in particular, the left party Communist Refoundation (RC).

The resolution "noted with grave concern" the decision of the RC to vote with Prodi's government coalition to maintain Italian troops in Afghanistan, correctly stating that this would be a "blow to the anti-war movement in Italy and across the world."

More than 50 Lebanese civilians - some news reports say 54 - sheltering in the basement of a three storey block in Qana have been murdered by the IDF, rescue workers are digging out their bodies by hand, severely hampered by the lack of heavy moving equipment.

Angry Lebanese have invaded the UN compound in Beirut and the impending visit of Condoleeza Rice has been cancelled, in revulsion, by the Lebanese government - however, the US spin machine is in overdrive as RTE's Radio 1 is now reporting that Condi called of her empty shuttle efforts herself. ... read full story / add a comment
