Slaughter in Qana by the Israeli's

Below are copied/pasted extracts/photos culled from an Electronic Lebanon report on the second Qana massacre (see link) and yesterdays mass burial of Lebanese civilians in Tyre.

It is the deadliest single strike since Israel unleashed its war on Lebanon. Israel, the US and several European governments are in no rush to reach a ceasefire. Dozens of other villages in the region around the southern port city of Tyre were also bombarded for two hours overnight with fire from the Israeli navy, air force and artillery. Israeli planes also tore up the Masnaa border crossing into Syria, leading to the closure of the main Damascus-Beirut route.
Israel's attack on Qana's residents came shortly after rejecting a UN call for a 72-hour humanitarian truce to allow the delivery of relief items to Lebanon. UN humanitarian chief Jan Egeland had appealed for a truce to allow casualties to be removed and food and medicine to be sent into the war zone, saying one third of the casualties were children.
Leading up to the Qana massacre, 17 villages had been flattened, over a half million people had been rendered homeless, more than 200 had been killed, and hundreds were wounded.

The tragedy at Qana today is that this is not unique in its general features. Israel's wars on Lebanon have been attended by violence, death and destruction of enormous proportions. Israel does not have any grounds to rely on the provision of the Charter of the United Nations concerning self-defence, while the means used to effect Lebanon's invasion totally lack proportionality.

Israel's kind of war effort obliterates the very idea of innocence as fully in its own way as does nuclear war. The irony here is very great because it is in these conflicts where the need for law is the greatest - that is, where battlefield tactics often tend to concentrate their firepower on civilians, civilian sanctuaries (hospital, churches, schools) and cultural centres, and to ignore the distinction between military and non-military. Governments that designate their enemies as 'terrorists' or 'criminals' treat their conflicts as outside the law.

On the first Qana massacre, Robert Fiske reported : "It was a massacre. Not since Sabra and Chatila had I seen the innocent slaughtered like this. The Lebanese refugee women and children and men lay in heaps, their heads or arms or legs missing, beheaded or disemboweled. there were well over a hundred of them. A baby lay without a head. The Israeli shells had scythed through them as they lay in the United Nations shelter, believing that they were safe under the world's protection. Like the Muslims of Srebrenica, the Muslims of Qana were wrong."

TYRE -- Lebanese authorities buried 32 unclaimed bodies in a mass grave in wasteland outside Tyre on Saturday 29th July.

The Lebanese soldiers retch as they unload maggot-infested body bags into coffins laid out for the mass burial. The bodies had lain unrecovered for up to ten days in the burned-out shells of cars, or scattered around the devastated villages of south Lebanon.

The murder of 37 children in this disgraceful saga in Lebanon caused by the Israelis today, calls for just a little more than lip service to the forces of nature that should reside in each of us, that claim to be members of the human race. Think of it. Israeli military men standing in front of a tribunal at the Hague accused of war crimes. For Cana - and not only Cana, God knows - there should be more than a few. This nation, founded on Arab blood, seems to need more to nourish itself. It can no longer go before the world as a victim, even when urged on by the insane policies of the Bush Administration in pursuance by proxy of US aims in the Middle East. Israel is shamed forever in the eyes of the world as the single most aggressive country in the world, the killer of children, literally, by the dozens; and Tony Blair and George Bush could have prevented it, had they demanded a cease-fire before yesterday as most of the world urged them to. Shame too on those who put forward the notion to the newspaper 'Al Ha'aretz' that the deaths of the innocent Cana children were caused by the delayed explosion of concealed weapons in the houses that were bombed! Is no lie sufficiently disgraceful when covering up a war crime? But perhaps it is possible, when desperate, to lie to onself. George W. Bush, not being a particularly Christian man in any sense that Christ might understand the term, will not order Israel to hand over those responsible for Cana. Europe should find the courage to ask for their arrest and trial.

In the wake of these latest atrocities in Lebanon, a group of brave Israelis organised and marched in protest in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa yesterday

These courageous people - mainly women - were cursed by many of the 90% who still "support the war".

They can surely be called the Righteous Among the Jews, corresponding to the title "Righteous Among the Nations" based in the Noahide Laws and later bestowed by the State of Israel on those "Gentiles" who supported, defended, rescued or sheltered Jews in their own hour of need in the Holocaust.

These peace activists will not get medals, certificates, citizenship or money - only the everlasting honour, respect, love and gratitude of people who are helpless like us to stop the slaughter of innocents by the mighty power of Israel backed to the hilt by the more powerful United States. The cliche "speaking truth to power" comes alive in them.

These brave people need and deserve our support.

6 million dead may be the Nazis legacy but Israel is doing its job by putting that many into the largest outside prison. Israel seems to believe they hold the high moral ground by not killing vis a vis the nazis.

Last nights 9 O'clock News had several special reports covering the latest civilian slaughter in Qana. Scenes of children's bodies being removed from the broken building were interspersed with numerous opportunities for Israeli apologetics. In all cases they attempted to shift blame for the bombing onto Hizbullah, as if dropping bombs on a sovereign country is not a crime in itself.

I'm extreemly sorry about the childern and other citizens in Kafr Cana. No child should be a victim. But as for a crime, dropping bombs on sovereign country is not a crime. Not when the said "sovereign country" allows a militant group to rule half of its territory. And by rule, I mean rull. The Hizballa is the 2nd employer in Lebanon. It deals with anything there, from schools to hospitals. They recruit kids at the age of 12 and train them ever since. Now. this "sovereign country" allows the said militant to shoot missiles repeatedly at other sovereign country. Not a crime? And to enter a sovereign country and attack its soldiers. Not an act of war?
Now, its really nice that Nasralla said they aim at soldiers and military targets only. Actually, by missiles and rocketts they have managed to injure 2 soldiers, who happend to be at home. All others were civilians. Tens died and hunderds injured. Civillians all. The Hizballa happened to hit twice hospitals. Not a total war crime? The IDF strike from the air and mistakes happen. Sad, but this is war for you. At least the IDF tries to hit Hizballa only, and hit civilians too. Hizballa target civillians only.
Worse of all, Hizballa throws missiles from civillian vilages. From civillian houses. . From civillian appartments. IDF has a movie, showing missiles launched from Kafr Cana. The launcher launch once, twice, three and four time, and than drives happily to some house basement! Not a total war crime?

Let me tell you a story.
There used to be a 7.5 years old boy, named Omer Pesachov. He and his parents lived in Naharia, which is a town near the sea, several KMs from the border. After the Hizballa started launching missiles, the family went to Grandma and Grandpa, who live in Meron, which is in the middle of the Galilee mountains, much farer. A day afterward a missile hit the Grandparents house. Omer died. So did the Grandma. His sister Roni, aged 11, injured seriously.

In Israel, before it was established, there were 3 underground. Right after the independance declaration, all 3 of them, with or without will, joined under the IDF. More than that - the main party dismantled its own military branch - the PALMACH.
What reason has the so called "resistance" to exist 6 years after Israel withdrawed from Lebanon? Resistance against what, exactly?

Since when how many people died is the measurement if a war is just or not?
US and UK bombed Germany and killed millions of german civillians, making entire cities into dust and stones. Was their war unjust?
Hizballa attacked IDF soldiers on Israeli soil. Hizballa fire rockets and missiles over 1/3 of Israel, and threaten that he has half of Israel within reach. They use globules inside their Katiushas, to enlarge the damage, which is forbidden according to Geneva convention.
No country in the world would remain silente after such acts. Nor Ireland.
Israel has called for south Lebanon citizens to move out: by massages in the Israeli-Arabic radio. By dropping pamphletes from planes. By calling for their houses. Hizballa keeps launching from villages and civillian buildings, hiding inside them, storing there shells. Qana events, as sad it may be, and belive me I'm extreemly sorry over death of innocent kids, MAY HAPPEN. It's a bloody war.

Really nice that they call themselves "resistance". Not to compare, but imagine that the french resistance would exist for years after WW2, as an army of itself, inside france, and they would launch attacks on Germany, because "we still remember what happend before".

Firstly, as I said before, the Israeli soldiers are reported to have been captured on Lebanese soil not as you contend. Secondly, Israel were conducting cross border operations prior to this. Thridly, Israel has been planning this operation for over a year now.

Israel uses depleted uranium weapons, it is alleged they have used phosphrous bombs. Some of the injuries caused, have reportedly not been seen before.

Human Rights Watch accuse Israel of indiscriminate targeting. This is backed up by official statements, that everyone is a legitimate target given, as you say, they have had a chance to leave.

Yet Israel has been bombing infrasctructure and even fleeing families. ISrael has no right to order people to leave. They are creating refugees, in the knowledge that the necessary aid is not being delivered to them.

This is not a legitimate war and it is not self defense. Hizbullah rocket attacks in the last month are in response to Israel bombing. The Israelis escalated the situation not the other way round. They have consistantly held prisoners illegally and are conducting violent operations in Palestine routinely.

Have you seen this:

Regardless of whether the statement beneath is true or not it can be viewed in two ways.

1. That it is a devious scare tactic to frighten off any valid criticism of Israel and so reduce public opinion and any damaging debate.

2. That it is an idiots dream!
Because all the while Israel is showing the world that it cares not one iota for public opinion or Human Rights .

We, the ordinary people on the street can make our voices heard by writing on here, contacting our TD's & MEP's and also take action via our shopping by careful selection of what we buy.

The Gemayels wanted him Hanged, yet his small army did more for Lebanese Honour & Soveignity then the Gemayels, Frangieh's , Chamoun's,et al. He took on the PLO, & PFLP. When UNIFIL PROVED unable to Curtail PLO fighters roaming My country abusing MY countrymen & women.

You forget (or choose not to remember) what the PLO did to Lebanon and the Christian Lebanese. Also the 30 year Syrian occupation is somehow forgotten. ( You know the National Socialists next door).

Lebanon was once a Christian majority nation. The Moslems have taken care of that.

The real number of victims in Damour 20 January 1976 was 600 not 40,000. The massacre was in retailiation for the Phalangist massacre of 1,000 civilians in Karantina so where was your own outrage then you hypocrites?
