Back when Michael Jackson died a military-industrial-corporate coup d'etat began in Honduras with collusion of a section of the Pentagon, pharmaceutical corporations, Honduran judges & transnational lobbies. The coup resulted in the exile of the legitimate Honduran president, flown out of his state in his pyjamas to Costa Rica, whose leader would later try without success to broker a 7 point agreement. The usurpation of Zelaya took on greater significance as geopolitical balances changed in the Latin American hemisphere. President Zelaya has now returned to the capital of his country with 4 others & is in residence in the Brazilian diplomatic compound as an honoured guest afforded not only ferrero rocher whenever he wants but also the more meaningful political and military protection of Latin America's pre-eminent power, Brazil. Hugo Chavez has described how Zelaya and his team had passed through Honduras, incognito, braving their lives to take up their present position in Brazil's legation. ... read full story / add a comment

In his first political foray since the 2007 general election, Mr Michael McEvil, former attorney general and the man who is credited with destroying the Progressive Democrat Party, entered the debate on the Lisbon Treaty by launching a new organisation- Evil People for Lisbon. In a statement, Mr McHorrible, who had returned from hell for the occasion, claimed that the debate on Lisbon needed to be nuanced and not a “phony Punch and Judy show” between the two sides. A section of the population is being excluded from the debate, he said, the evil people. "There needs to be a space for truly evil people, the racists, fascists, and those who have always rejected workers' rights, peace, and disarmament as genuine goals." ... read full story / add a comment

The Spanish state over recent months has intensified its campaign against Basque solidarity with the political prisoners but seems to have succeeded only in raising the profile of the prisoners and in further alienating Basques from the Spanish state. The campaign against the solidarity movement has combined judicial decrees, governmental action and police baton charges with the firing of rubber bullets while silence or misrepresentation has been the response of much of the media. ... read full story / add a comment

The 9 women who occupied arms company Raytheon's premises in Derry during the Israeli assault on Gaza are being "arraigned" before the court on Monday next, 21st Sept. While they tried to repeat what the Raytheon 9 men did and bring down the computer system, the heightened security meant that they did little damage. Nonetheless, the state is going after the women who were trying to stop war crimes while the war criminals walk free. Four men arrested as they demonstrated in support of the women are also in court on Monday. ... read full story / add a comment

The monthly peace vigil at Shannon on Sunday 13 Sept took place on a beautiful Indian Summer's day when nature seemed to be at peace with itself. However, a closer look inside the airport fence showed very few civilian planes, with Aer Lingus cut backs on Shannon services, Air France/CityJet about to abandon its Shannon Paris route, and Ryanair also planning schedule cutbacks. There was plenty of military activity however, with four warplanes surrounded by Gardai and Airport Police. ... read full story / add a comment

Speaking during a Sinn Féin canvass in Dublin city centre today Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams yesterday urged voters to reject the Lisbon Treaty '”in order to build a Fairer Ireland and a Better Europe”. Membersof the party distributed leaflets in Dublin city centre asking people to reflect on why they were being asked to vote again. Responses varied, with most people saying they were going to vote the same way they did last year. However a worrying number of people were confused by the government's campaign on the treaty, and were unclear on the status of the so-called guarantees. ... read full story / add a comment |
