American capitalist and extreme right-winger, William Flynn, has issued a call for the IRA to complete its surrender. Flynn with his largesse and influence played a key role in initiating the surrender process. Blair and Aherne are eager to get a deal done so that British troops can be freed up for Anglo-American Imperial adventures. The Sinn Fein leadership is playing a key role in this pacification process. So all they can do is have a Sinn Fein T.D. issue a weak statement calling on Aherne to issue a statement. Aherne, by allowing Shannon to be used by the American war machine, is complicit in the impending mass murder of 1,000s of Iraqi civilians. Do ye really think a candle-lit vigil will stop Aherne aiding and abetting mass murder? ... read full story / add a comment

Dear Friends as one of the original signatories to the irish Writers Against War letter to the Irish Times, I felt it was important to state what my views are vis-a-vis non violent direct action against the war. I completely support the tearing down of fences, and the decommissioning of aircraft carrying American troops. Hopefully my little poem will explain why. I'll be at Shannon tomorrow. Hope to see you all there. Cheers Rab Swannock Fulton ... read full story / add a comment

IRISH FREEDOM COMMITTEE - REPORT FROM MAGHABERRY Wednesday February 25, 2003 ---------------------- The situation at Maghaberry Prison is now as bad or worse than conditions were at Long Kesh before the hunger strikes of the 1980's. In addition, the prison is trying every method it can to break the prisoners' connection with their families through the fostering of a hostile and threatening visiting environment. Families with fathers or sons or husbands or brothers at Maghaberry must now bear the dual burden of enduring daily fears for the safety of their loved ones in prison; and the criminalization of their children and families as they are terrorized on visits to the prison. ... read full story / add a comment

What is direct action? Direct action, to use Rudolf Rocker's words, is "every method of immediate warfare by the workers [or other sections of society] against their economic and political oppressors. Among these the outstanding are: the strike, in all its graduations from the simple wage struggle to the general strike; the boycott; sabotage in all its countless forms; [occupations and sit-down strikes;] anti-militarist propaganda, and in particularly critical cases,... armed resistance of the people for the protection of life and liberty." The leaders of the Axis have all met the Pontiff John Paul 2 this week at the begining of the Christian period of Lent. The catholic leaders received customary rosary beads, the protestant leader Blair married to a catholic whose children attended the R.Catholic Oratory school spent the longest period in strictly private discussion with the Pope. RTE midday news has reported that Labour, Sinn Fein and the Green Party are telling their members not to attend tomorrows direct action at Shannon. Despite the fact that EVERYONE involved in organising the protest has said that it will be non-violent these parties are inventing a threat of violence to try and scare people away. Don't fall for this dishonest rubbish. ... read full story / add a comment

There are plenty of groups and individuals in the anti-war movement who are opposed to direct action as a general principle. They think protests should always stay within the law, and aim to change the minds of government ministers through sheer numbers. Fair enough, that's their position. But what about the other groups, that say they do favour direct action? ... read full story / add a comment

There is a threat of war and the deaths of innocent people. Some believe that tearing down the fence on Saturday will do more than a mass movement - that is their right to believe that. Personally I believe that it has been spelt out enough for people to know that violence is not part of the plan and I really do hope it works. However, knowing that there will be a massive security presence there, can anyone supply an update for what is going to happen if people cannot get near the fence. As it stands the plan seems very well organised but doesn't mention the possibility of there being a line of gardai before the fence. ... read full story / add a comment
