“Under British regulations, passengers arriving from Ireland are not required to self-isolate, nor undergo covid testing.” This situation contrasts greatly with the horde of travel restrictions promulgated in the Irish Government citizens advice website, obstacles that have proved insurmountable: ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

A major film was released about the Tuam Children’s Home recently, a joint production by RTE, the Irish State Television station obviously, and ITV in the UK. It was extraordinarily harsh in describing this institution, others like it and indeed Ireland in general for those years of the 1920s-50s. In this writer’s opinion, it left a lot to be desired in its accuracy in reference to this Home and this article is an attempt to set the record straight. The first and most important issue of course is the question of whether or not the bodies of children were laid to rest in a disused septic tank, for which see the accompanying diagram and description here, followed by the other great issue, that of the mortality rate in these Homes. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

national / public consultation / irish social forum Tuesday November 30, 2021 - 22:39 by Lawyers For Justice Ireland Official
Lawyers for Justice have received many inquiries from the public about be blocked access to hospitals for medical treatment and have published some advice on their telegram channel and this is republished in the interests of the public We are receiving many urgent queries from people now being refused access to hospitals for medical treatment, whether on an emergency basis or for necessary and urgent treatment, where the refusal is based on vaccination status. Unfortunately this is becoming more common over recent days and weeks. It is important that people are aware of this situation in order to plan ahead, and to establish what the hospital access will be ahead of treatment, or to make other arrangements if this is possible. We attach a draft letter here for use if you are refused hospital access and medical care. Very often the refusal takes place where you present on an emergency basis and have no warning that you would require admission to a hospital, or treatment. We would suggest that you utilise the draft letter as soon as you can, where you are refused emergency care, or in advance where refusal of hospital access is established on your enquiry. It is important to register your objections/ refusal to accept these exclusions. You can PM us or make at contact via email on the above. ... read full story / add a comment![]()

international / anti-war / imperialism Monday November 22, 2021 - 17:00 by De Piorraí
I originally wrote this piece in September 2021 following the announcement by United States President Joe Biden that US forces would withdraw from Afghanistan, but never sought to publish the piece. The Irish Government is playing both sides on the matter of foreign affairs, calling for peace and claiming to be 'neutral' while actively supporting Western military imperialism. In this peice, I examine and criticise the involvement of Ireland in the Afghanistan War, with sources provided at the end. I can be contacted at [email protected] ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Review of James Bond No Time To Die film The latest Bond flick No Time To Die was certainly a rollercoaster ride of exciting action scenes and great special effects, yet contained more than a quantum of longueurs. With a running time of 163 minutes it certainly tries the patience and the bladders of its audiences (who I saw popping out of the cinema throughout the film). Personally, I think 90 minutes is enough for any film, especially since the disappearance of the intermission and ice-cream selling of yore. In this case, the increased length seems to have been to incorporate backstories of some of the individuals involved. The effect of this is to attenuate Bond’s appearances in the film, while adding very little to the story (hence the longueurs). One effect of this narrative style is to put more emphasis on the story of Bond and less on the usual geopolitics and action we associate with Bond films. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Consistently f!u season has been winter fodder for the Irish press. Until it vanished at a time when officials needed to boost c0v!d case numbers. Convenient. It's claimed it disappeared due to stringent public health guidelines which strangely didn't quash c0v!d. Now officials need a scapegoat for spiraling hospitalisations post vaccine roll-out & any flu will do. #FlipFlopFluFallacy ... read full story / add a comment |
