Benjamin Netanyahu ‘s own words: “Terrorism is the deliberate assault on civilians to inspire fear for political ends. Though one might quibble with this definition, for example by broadening ‘political ends’ to include ideological or religious motives, it nonetheless captures the essence of terrorism—the purposeful attack on the innocent, those who are hors de combat, outside the field of legitimate conflict. In fact, the more removed the target of the attack from any connection to the grievance enunciated by the terrorists, the greater the terror.” From “Fighting Terrorism: How Democracies Can Defeat the International Terrorist Network, 2001 Edition Chapter 1, page 8.” ... read full story / add a comment

the NCT was brought in to inject life into the flagging motor sales industry in celtic tiger days, and to create lucrative business opportunites for some lucky people who happened to well connected and in the loop. It's all a bit of a money making scam, which targets the poor disproportionally, gives gardai draconian powers of seizure. Chronic delays in the test system, not to mention reports of corrupt practices make the thing a nightmare for the less well off trying to keep a vehicle on the road in order to increase their chances of finding work. Just another obstacle put in the way of the poorer classes which serves to limit their possibilities and their movements. ... read full story / add a comment

Yesterday afternoon tragically 295 people lost their lives. What we do know is that if the Kiev fascist regime had any sort of tenuous proof that the separatists had shot it down the Western media would be screaming bloody murder. Instead they are quite coy and initially qualified it with the word accident. And accident of sorts it may well have been because it looks like this may have been more than yet another provocation by US/NATO via their neo-Nazi puppets in Kiev to widen the conflict but in fact may have been a direct attempt to assassinate president Putin because it has been reported his presidential plane flew over the same region approximately 30 minutes earlier. More on this later. But first some details on the lead up to this. ... read full story / add a comment

Water is becoming a corporate resource - the sell off of Irish Water is almost certain Call me a cynic, but I am absolutely convinced that the current Irish government has created Uisce Éireann (Irish Water) with the sole purpose of selling Ireland’s water rights to the private sector within the next decade. Already Uisce Éireann has wasted over €80 million euro in consultancy fees paid to the private sector and it will continue to use private sector contractors to carry out its work, at as yet unknown cost. It is only the fact that it would be political suicide for the government right now that prevents a share issue in the near future. ... read full story / add a comment

The Local Council Elections are taking place this week and it is worth taking a look at what they are about and what main groups other than FF and FG are running whilst relecting on recent history aka the Mahon Planning Tribunal to remind ourselves of how bad things were. Also an attempt is made to devise a list of questions for the candidates when they come canvassing to your door and to get people thinking about what councils do and why you should spend even a few minutes a year to find out more and get them to work for you instead of vested interests. ... read full story / add a comment

State expenditure, as a whole, constitutes an enormous deduction from total surplus value. This largely unproductive spending involves an enormous contraction in the accumulation of capital. It is a deduction that has been growing significantly in the aftermath of the 2nd World War. In the present period of growing problems, regarding the accumulation of capital, there have been continuing feeble attempts to shrink the state or at least reduce the annual rate of state spending. ... read full story / add a comment
