As the Prohibition of Marijuana was done for the benefit of health-damaging industries like logging, pulp, chlorine, pesticides, petrochemical plastics, big pharma and the like, so too is the virtually inevitable Prohibition of Tobacco. Anyone with half a brain can see that Blair lied in order to scare the British (and world) population to support his position on invading Iraq. Yet no matter the phoney platitudes, dodgy evidence and spurious logic he inflicted upon the world, we knew he was talking rubbish. Iraq was not involved in September 11th, it did not have links with al-Qaida, and it had no WMD. The anti-war movement has been vindicated. ... read full story / add a comment

I have long noticed that on sundays I have more free time. I like to see my friends if I can, and share a cup of tea or coffee and reflect on how irrelevant we are to the world of the great. If i can i listen to music and I also play it, and I think of poetry, the river of my nation which shall always be flowing into the universe. Today I'm not going to be hysterical nor moved by the flows of emotion I have seen in my home (Spain) as the people have come to their own terms with what happened to us as an extended community. It is time I realised the potential of my own words to disturb, to confuse, and thus to be more _careful_. Writers too often are no more than their readers' prejudices. ... read full story / add a comment

You might have seen last night's Prime Time Programme or today's Irish Examiner articles about Sellafield. the main news is about a huge pond holding high level nuclear waste. The pond, which holds thousands of gallons of various nuclear crap is decaying and according to Dr. John Large, a nuclear expert and former Sellafield Worker, it contains up to 5 tonnes of Plutonium. ... read full story / add a comment

I wonder is it possible that someone (!) who has the time to work with the Indymedia Collective Editorial Team could assign themselves the task of collecting the names and 'journalism' of outrageous anti-democratic no-research-necessary corporate-nonsense journalists for the purpose of inviting them to a debate in public on the theme of Journalism And Democracy. ... read full story / add a comment

I note that there is discussion on another thread about the size of yesterday’s anti-war march. I recall a similar discussion this time last year about the dimensions of the 15 February mobilisation —was there 80,000 or perhaps 200,000? I discovered yesterday that it is hard to be half-way accurate about such matters, much less definitive ... read full story / add a comment

It has long been valued that on their non-banking days people are pretty much the same as when they work, graft, toil and sweat. Except they have less money making opportunities. This facilitates their increased participation in their society as citizens and nationals of the Civilised World. Big demo in Dublin today. Photos and video and reports on RTE website radio and TV, ireland.com, even the Indo. And what do we get on Indymedia? A press release from the Continuity IRA support group posted after the march saying that they are going to attend it. And reports from Shannon. No photos at all. Time to close down Indymedia. On September 1, 2003, the Miami Herald reported that, "Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry...appeared to shift his stance on the trade embargo with Cuba on Sunday, telling a national television audience that he now supports keeping sanctions in place. Kerry's remarks, delivered on NBC's Meet the Press, seemed to contradict statements he made during a 2000 interview with the Boston Globe that a reevaluation of the embargo was 'way overdue.'" ... read full story / add a comment |
