Generally speaking "moaning" on the Joe Duffy show is about as far as the resistance has gone. The Joe Duffy show is the modern substitute for popular resistance.Indeed the Cowan government succeeded in demobilising mass protests that were to be mounted over six months ago. He is trying it again by engaging in current talks with the trade union leadership. Dont they just luv when Brian calls them in to talk with him. How they suck up to him.

Is suicide the irrational act of a capricious and headstrong person? Ill considered? Is it caused by an outside agency - family, an unfaithful boyfriend, a bully boss, loss of a job, bankruptcy, depression, anger, illiberal education, calumny or any other of the ills that flesh is heir to? The psychiatric services seem to find the problem of suicide impregnable and, indeed, neuroleptic medication - anti-depressants in particular - seem to be implicated in a negative way in many a suicide. Alcoholic drink is often involved if not as a cause then at least as a catalyst for suicide. ... read full story / add a comment

It would be great That, When Whole Workplaces Come Out on the Day Of Action on November 6th, if they March En Masse from their Workplace to the Protest venues. This has happened before on the PAYE Tax Marches for example. Of course, I'm not suggesting that those working far out in the suburbs such as Coolock or Tallaght, or those working outside the Provincial Centres March into town. They should charter buses and car pool, as it Seems Very Likely that Public Transport Will Stop At Least for Several Hours on November 6th. ... read full story / add a comment

In the Summer of 2008 it was confirmed that Ireland's economy was in recession. At the same time thousands of people received the results of their degrees. This article looks at how the recession has affected the graduates of 2008, a group whose struggles have been under-reported in the media and some of those graduates relate their experiences, within the last year, of jobseeking, social welfare and further education. ... read full story / add a comment

Something for people to consider during a irksome Recession and when vulnerabilities multiply, and people become further ostracised:-

'Where is the Life we have lost living?

Where is the wisdom we have lost in Knowledge?

Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?

Ireland has now embracing the status within the EU as an Knowledge Economy, so let us use the Knowledge minus the unwanted information to make proper health provision for the vulnerable and aged. ... read full story / add a comment

The Green Party which consists mostly of a parliamentary section and a grassroot will continue
to support FF through whatever budget cuts FF deem necessary to the Irish economy without
question until 2012. it really turns the spotlight onto FG's failure to capture anybody's imagination
save the uber-blonde professional politician types that hang out round Mr Kenny.
Yesterday 09/10/09 Minister Gormley believed that he had the media in thrall from 9am-9pm
with his crack negotiating team comprised of Boyle, White and Ryan. White is notable in that
in her first joint budget with FF she stood and applauded cuts to old people, she is thus
not very bright (low wattage).

In the past, I have written about a treasure trove of information much under utilised for parents, for individuals, for children, for the elderly concerned about the future, and for students. It is the EU office in Dawson Street. This is adjacent to the Royal Irish Academy, and St. Anne's Church which is also a haven for people with time on their hands and a curious mind. When Michael O’Leary joined the yes campaign I thought to myself that this would actually be beneficial for the No side. For most Irish people, O’Leary’s arrogance and clown antics are irritating the best of times. He did not appear to be as knowledgeable as Declan Ganley on the overall text of the Lisbon treaty. O’Leary just kept repeating the same two points over and over again, the Commissioner and taxation. I thought that O’Leary’s support for the Yes side was a blessing in disguise. I believed that his personality alone would drive some people to vote No.

Referendums modify Irish foundational law and are, in effect, a court and citizens are the jury

This requires, in the interest of fair conduct, criteria such as the following are complied with as in the courts.
There must be
careful, truthful, balanced and clear exposition of the various aspects of the amendment
no preconditioning or intimidation of citizen jurors
adequate opportunity and time for all concerned citizens to evaluate the issues
adequate opportunities for citizen jurors to evaluate the credibility proponents of Yes & No cases etc

A little thought would enable most to see that ending competition (war or commercial warfare in which the strongest, wealthiest, most devious etc generally win) is the imperative if we want a just & peaceful world. Those of us who blame “the system"- capitalism, communism, socialism or religions of any persuasion have been misled. The system is what those in power make it regardless of what it's called. Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, or their ilk control, dominate, terrorise, kill, even their own as well as the enemy to achieve their ends. Gandhi, MLKing or Christ would never use such methods because they loved humanity even their "enemies"

By all accounts it appears that members of the Gardai were not truthful in their dealings throughout Michael McKevitt’s case. The latest conflicting evidence between two senior Garda officers certainly warrant an immediate investigation to identify if flawed evidence also contaminated the civil case in Belfast, resulting in a double miscarriage of justice.
