WITCH HUNT against NIO civil servants! NIO civil servants face summary arrest and interrogation, if the state targets them, becos their relatives/friends maybe sympathetic to Sinn fein/SDLP or simply becos they are catholic living in republican areas. There is a pervading climate of fear in northern ireland, where catholic/republican/left wing protestant workers not only face summary execution by the LVF but now also ARREST AND INTERROGATION by the brit state security services on false charges/allegations of spying. read full story / add a comment

Cannabis-based drugs could be prescribed in the UK as early as 2003, following successful final-stage trials in patients with multiple sclerosis. Compared with standard treatments alone, the drugs significantly improved symptoms of MS and reduced pain caused by other types of nerve damage, GW Pharmaceuticals has announced. The company is the sole UK holder of a licence to cultivate and supply cannabis for medical research. (More at New Scientist. Two in a row. What next? Ecstasy is being hailed as the key to better treatments for the Parkinson's disease, marking a complete turnaround from a few weeks ago when ecstasy was condemned for causing the disease. New animal studies have confirmed anecdotal reports that ecstasy can dramatically curb the uncontrollable arm and leg movements that plague so many people with Parkinson's. But the finding may be of little immediate help to sufferers (More at www.newscientist.com) read full story / add a comment

Seen poster on lamp post at College Green outside TCD advertising a Demo on Saturday December 7th, starting at 2pm at the Central Bank and marching to the US Embassy in Ballsbridge. No doubt the march will then probably proceed onto the nearby British Embassy. So the poster who said here the other day that there was 2 seperate Anti war demos on over that weekend, the one in Dublin on the Saturday December 7th, and the other one on the following day, Sunday, December 8th was right after all. I personally it's actually a good idea to have 2 Anti war demos on in different parts of the country over that weekend. It might stimulate some media interest. Plus some of us might go to both protests. I don't see any clash between the 2 demos. read full story / add a comment
