After the media coverage of the heckling at Liberty hall on Mayday, and the subsequent debate about who runs GR, some of us felt it was necessary to clarify our position as a group. It was decided at our last meeting that this letter should be send to Des Geraghty. This in no way negates the right of any individual to hold their own opinions and voice them as they see fit. Des Geraghty is to be invited to speak at a meeting so that anyone who wishes to raise issues with him may do so in person. read full story / add a comment

I'm only linking this in case IT have a wobbly over copyright. http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2002/0515/1817683962HM4CTDEMPSEY.html Short link: http://makeashorterlink.com/?I1E625FD An Indymedia Journo is in court charged with obstructing a Guard during the Burlington Hotel anti-globalisation protest last year. The Journo is alledged to have obstructed the guard during an altercation in which a protester is alledged to have struck the Guard with a stick. The Journo is pleading not guilty to three charges: breach of the peace, obstruction and unlawful possession of a card-type Swiss army knife. I *think* (and correction would be appreciated), that the "card-type Swiss army knife" mentioned is this: http://www.victorinox.com/newsite/en/produkte/produktdetails/detail.cfm?pid=0-7106 Shorter link http://makeashorterlink.com/?P5C621FD I have one, here's the details 1 pin 1 nail file with screwdriver 5.4cm 1 plastic toothpick 4.2cm 1 tweezers 4.6cm 1 ballpoint pen 7cm 1 sissors 7.8cm (cutting edge 1.8cm) 1 knife 8 cm (cutting edge 4cm) "Unauthorised possession" my feckin arse. read full story / add a comment

Opinion Poll shows public massively opposed to police attack on RTS protest. A total of 67pc of people in the capital think the Gardai were unduly severe in their reaction to the protest when they resorted to batoning citizens. And nearly three quarters of young people - 74pc of those aged 18 to 24 - share this view. read full story / add a comment

The following evidence including a video (see associated link to actual footage) showing Palestinians faking a funeral in Jenin needs to be read and digested by the many accusers of Israel who have written on this site. It is not enough for the truth to be told. It needs to be heard. It needs to be acknowledged. My close colleague came back into the office on Thursday afternoon, the end of our workweek, still in uniform with his M-16 and pistol on him. This was the day that the IDF left the Jenin refugee camp to reassemble in the area, returning to the status quo that existed before the Passover Eve Massacre, in which so many at the Park Hotel in Netanya were murdered by a suicide bomber. He was called up for emergency reserve duty (they call it an Order-8, or tzav shmona) and is the officer in charge of the military field infirmary, assigned to the reserve unit who lost the nine soldiers in that one incident last week. So what I'm passing on here was told directly to me, just hours after he left the Jenin area, while in Yokneam, 19 kilometers from Jenin (where we both work and he lives). I didn't record his read full story / add a comment

It would be really great in the circumstances to get a reply on indymedia from the author or the editor about the recent bullshit controversy over the 'smash capitalism' piece. There was a meeting today of the Garda Rep Ass. where P.J Stone said there was another side to the RTS protest that was not shown to the public and if it had been he said the public would understand that the Gardai acted "responsibly".He was asked what the other story was and in response Stone said there was a "car damaged", "Smoke bomb used", a car with a baby in it was "kicked" and other instances i.e.spray painting buildings. read full story / add a comment
