Last week 2 officers of the French police force were attacked while doing thier rounds in one of the sink estates that adorn every urban centre in that country. Nothing strange in that you may say. They dress like soldiers these days because they're used to being attacked. But Sarkozy saw his opportunity to highlight like no other can - the difference a poor unfashionable neighbourhood enjoys in "comunity policing". Yesterday afternoon a force of at least 200 riot police "surgically extracted" 12 teenage suspects from the Corbeil-Essonnes / Tarterets housing estate of Paris. Somewhere buses don't go coz they were all burned last year. read full story / add a comment

I wonder am I alone in thinking, when presented with a collective picture of career politicians smiling on the steps of the Dail, that the elected members of that house might have difficulty finding their arse with both hands. It is little wonder that the grinning gombeens are smiling like a cats after a bowl of cream. read full story / add a comment

Perhaps the two most feared words in the English language today are “suicide bomber”; the propaganda machine in the west ensures that these two words continue to strike fear and terror into the hearts of the civilian population. Circumstances occasionally present all of us with unusual opportunities. When a young man who claimed the above distinction wished to make known his story it would have been a dereliction of my profession to refuse the request. The public interest is not served unless both sides of a story are made available. read full story / add a comment

I am defending myself. This hearing, a continuation from 4th Sept, will presumably take all day and the case may not be concluded. The garda officers who made statements and whom the prosecution side does not wish to call in evidence have been sub-poenaed by me to appear tomorrow as witnesses on my behalf. It seems to shaping up into an interesting case. Full report on legal issues will follow after it's over. All are welcome to attend. read full story / add a comment

Anyone able to cast their mind back over the Robocop film franchise should be able to recall the many Omni Consumer Product ads featured in the film with their distinct dystopian undertones amidst a sea of promise. A similar style of ad has been circulating on the Irish inter-web as a viral video. Produced by the 'multi-disciplined, multi- talented' Wasaki Global Corporation it details the plans to build three islands off the coast of Dublin, complete with a replica Howth, 42,000 flats, 3 golf courses, several motor-ways and a giraffe only zoo. Yeah right says you., next they'll try and resurrect Atlantis. Word on the blogosphere would suggest that it's the work of an ad agency called Chemistry who conceived it as a stunt to launch new property website Funda Ireland. Clever bastards, eh? Well clever enough to take in a certain Labour politician on Morning Ireland earlier today. read full story / add a comment
