An extremely rare brooch has been discovered along with the remains of a 10th century woman, aged between 25 and 35, during an archaeological excavation at a site in Finglas village in north Dublin.

The site is due for development and has been delayed for a few weeks. A number of local people are raising their concerns about the proposed apartments proximity to the ruins of St Canices Church. Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli gaols have been on hunger strike for several weeks.

The Galway branch of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is running a public information meeting on the hunger strike (and on non-violent resistance generally) on Friday night, 3 Sept, at 8 pm in the Ardilaun Hotel, Taylor's Hill. There will be two speakers:
Dr Kathleen Cavanaugh of the Centre for Human Rights, NUI, Galway (recently returned from Palestine) will speak on the Israeli penal system, about the status of the hunger strike, and about the condition of the hunger strikers.
Eoghan MacCormac, Sinn Fein member and former hunger striker, will discuss the use of fasting as a form of non-violent protest. read full story / add a comment
