The visit of Tony Wentworth (BNP) to UCC has apparently been cancelled. The decision was taken on Friday night when the General Services people in the college advised the college that it would be too risky. Unfortunately they did not cancel the event on ethical grounds so no doubt we will be going though this again next year. So congrats to all involved. As readers of indymedia.ie are aware, I was released from Limerick Prison on Friday, 9th January, having served about 45 days of a 60-day sentence arising from my participation in an anti-war mass trespass at Shannon airport in October 2002. Readers will be happy to know that I left the prison without paying one cent of the E750 fine imposed by the state and, consequently, am in very good spirits. read full story / add a comment

Anti-war activist Eoin Rice was arrested today (Saturday 17th January) peacefully protesting on Shop Street, Galway, during the EU delegate's 'walkabout' after Friday's EU meeting. Eoin was subsequently beaten in police custody - with an injury to the back of his head and multiple bruising over his body. This caused by being shoved against a wall and hit with batons. He was then taken in police custody to hospital, where he had a head X-Ray. He has been released and is giving a press conference outside Mill Street Garda Station at 3.30 today.
