If both elections in Japan and Egypt proved the rule that the government wins, Norway just about proves it.

Its a tripartite, 3 party coalition which is described as red-green. In much the same ways that commentators described the german coalitions of the past, but little of the analytic substance needed to make the description fit.

What the norwegians who voted wanted and not wanted, and what they sought is... read full story / add a comment

In an attempt to keep the momentum going on this campaign, Craigavon Trades Council held another public meeting in Lurgan last night (12th Sept)
Difficulties in advertising the event contributed to another disappointing turn out. However using the maxim of quality over quantity the meeting was a possitive one. The launch of the water charge petition in the area has been a great success. So much so the Trades Council has been encouraged to organise further signing days in the major towns in the forthcoming weeks.
It is vitally important that the postponement of the charges for a year does not bring about a false sense of security on this matter. There is still a massive job to be done, needing the focused attention of all the groups opposing this unfair double tax.
There is another meeting in Portadown Town Hall wednesday 14th September at 7.30.
Other meetings and events will be advertised in due course. read full story / add a comment

A sample selection of images from the exhibition, 'Images of Resistance' are enjoying widespread viewership (is there such a word?) in two cafes based in the 'Italian Centre', Dublin. The centre is beside the Millenium Bridge (next to the Halfpenny Bridge), it's the buildings built by Mick Wallace's workers. You may remember the sites being draped by huge canopies bearing different slogans during there construction, 'capitalism means war' being one. Mick ruffled a lot of feathers and won.
The sale of the prints will help finance the exhibition and one or more of the photographers to travel to different locations. Some posters of the exhibition are still available at only €1 each. Lots a great food at reasonable prices too!
