Ooooo! a hijack.... in colombia

category international | miscellaneous | news report author Monday September 12, 2005 21:14author by unknown caller Report this post to the editors

Hk4030 an airplane with the Aerovias airline company in Colombia was hijacked today by two men with hand grenades as it was making a routine flight in teh south of the country with 5 crew and 20 passengers aboard. local radio reported.
It has since landed at Bogota and is on the airstrip.-

the event broke a little after 13h00 local time. (very far from Ireland). Ah sure you you know all about colombia. this is a rolling news situation. US media is fascinated.
Oooo! an old fashioned hijack, maybe the rev. Pat Robertson was right and its those commie mujahadeen doing a 911 small scale.

I won't be updating.
I can't be bothered.
google to see how the story goes or don't and if it doesn't hit IT / indo / RTE just pretend it never happened.

its a turbo prop. 2 hijackers. I presume at least one pilot and someone to keep an eye on the mini drinks.
thats 22 people on board. I suggested 23 allowing for a co-pilot, the latin americans say 25 allowing for inflation and BloombsergCNNFOXABC say 24.

anyway they want to talk to president Uribe.
really old fashioned.
observe the difference.
they don't want to kill 'emselves.

now i'm not updating anymore.
feck off.

the 23 passengers and crew were released after a local priest and presidential official talked to the hijackers who were not repeat not marxist commie mujahadeen (FARC/AL QAEDA) or their right wing extreme right presently on ceasefire loyalist equivalents (AUC) or even representatives of the plethora of Cocaine cartels.

They were in fact protesting the lack of assistance offered their dad.

"The father is confined to a wheelchair and the hijack may have been related to a failed demand for compensation. It seems he had been involved in an incident with police which left him disabled, local television channel RCN reports"
(BBC jeremy mcdermott reported on scene)

So there you go. We do have an angle.
*Disabled people,
*Police brutality
*Compensation.
*the limits of direct action.

If you are campaigning on behalf of people who have suffered at the hands of the state or its agents there are limits to what you can do. Don't go hijacking the Aran islands airlines and setting off alarm bells that you've got a twin prop plane full of :-
a) commie mujaheedin.
b) cocaine.
c) WMD
sitting on the tarmac of shannon whilst you wait for a word with Bertie Ahern via Fr Mc Verry SJ.
