Someone above (Eyewitness Report Ashtown gate Thread) said

'If Indymedia want to show that it is a legitimate unbiased news coverage provider, perhaps it should try to get the definitive story on the Ban Garda that was injured, just a suggestion.'

OK - I rang the Garda press office at 9 a.m. to inquire after garda injuries. I was told that no statement was ready but that they could confirm that at least one Garda had been injured and brought to Blanchardstown hospital. they were released after examination. they would not confirm that it was a head injury, that it was caused by a missile or even that it was a Ban Garda.(all of which I had heard and asked them to confirm).

I was told that there may be a statement later in the day. I then went out and bought the papers where I read a lot more detail (if the Guards gave out different information to other media outlets then we can not really be blamed on this). Since what I had was out of date and didn't add much I didn't publish the read full story / add a comment

In spite of the fine weather, attendance at the annual May Day march through Belfast was down on previous years.
Organise! members marched under a special banner dedicated to the memory of the Haymarket martyrs, and it was good to see members of the Communities Against the Water Tax also present.
There was a good atmosphere in St. George's Market afterwards where Organise! had a stall distributing literature.

Last night’s “Bring the Noise” march to Farmleigh
demonstrated two things. Firstly, many people really do care about the freedom of assembly and opinion and for a different kind of Europe. After a month of hate speech from the security forces and sections of the media, after riot police had been placed at our assembly point with instructions to prevent people demonstrating, after our friends had been arrested, harassed on the street, our venues raided by the police, it was not an easy choice to walk, with only our own bodies, between lines of police knowing that off in the wings were the riot squads, the army and all the other threats they have used against us. read full story / add a comment

Learning from prior experience in both Dublin and abroad, the Irish manage to pull off a successful EU summit, hold a street party, have a protest, with no serious injuries, damage, or rain. Quite dissapointing really, and a little disturbing! read full story / add a comment
