Following the announcement last year by SDLP minister Sean Farren that his department would examine the introduction of Watercharges, British Direct Rule Minister Angela Smith has indicated that charges and job losses will be part of an overall programme of 'restructuring'. Trade Union representatives have expressed fears that such 'restructuring' will be a prelude for privitisation. read full story / add a comment

This essay is primarily a scream of pain from a two year old boy in Ireland in 1950, whose life is being wrecked by the civilization into which he was born. The message is interweaved with the tragedy at Ballyseedy Cross because of it's acute relevance, as explained in the text, and also because Irish people have never really faced the events of June 1922 - April 1923. To my knowledge only three full-length books have been written about the period, despite the fact that those ten months have defined and contaminated Irish politics ever since. The essay goes on to identify the solution which will ensure that no more little boys will have to scream in pain as this one is doing. read full story / add a comment

If you have ever heard that stuff about nervous soldiers panicking under pressure, I particularly urge you to see this film. You will never see a soldier under less pressure than the man who decided to open up on us. You will see Kunle and Lillian, our designated negotiators, walk forward with arms outstretched to approach the armoured personnel carrier. Kunle was hit in three places. Their "crime"? ISM activists ride in Red Crescent ambulances. They help farmers who try to labour in the shadow of Israeli settlements and their violent occupants. They remove roadblocks so that people can go about their business. They run playgroups. Taking verbal and physical abuse from from settlers, police and soldiers. read full story / add a comment

In case you werent aware: On March 16 2003, American civil protection volunteer Rachel Corrie was killed by an Israeli Army bulldozer while trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian home at Rafah in the Gaza Strip. Rachel was the 22nd person to die in house demolitions in the Occupied Territories since February 2002. The IPSC is holding a vigil at the Israeli Embassy (Ballsbridge, Dublin) at 7pm on Wednesday 16th April to commemorate these innocent victims of the occupation. All welcome. Bring banners and flags. A paraqde will leave Central Bank Plaza at 6.15 to march to the vigil if you can make it. Also, the murderous Israeli "defence" forces shot another ISM member in the head a few days ago as he tried to rescue two children from these depraved psychos. What have the pro zionists to say now?? What possible justification is there for this????Bet we wont read full story / add a comment

Read the letter by John Throne which was suppressed by the SP Troika. Make your own mind up. "The older more experienced leaders of the SP know that if the Comrades were to take up these policies which I advocate they would come under attack from the CWI leadership. After 25 years in the CWI, 23 as a full timer I was slandered , fired without any compensation or pension, left with hospital bills the CWI refused to pay, expelled from the CWI and refused my right to appeal against my expulsion. Partly this was to discourage others from taking an independent position inside the CWI. As I say the Comrades would come under severe attack. But it is at times like these that we have to decide what our priorities are, where our loyalties are, what it means to be a revolutionary." John throne read full story / add a comment
