In a demonstration outside the Department of Education and Science last Thursday students from UCD called for an open publicly funded accessible education system for all. Around 60 students took part in the demonstration which was the result of a motion put forward by grass root councillors in the student union in response to the failure of the Union of Students Ireland to take any form of action over the grant issue this year apart from asking students to vote in the upcoming May general election, in an effort to apply pressure to candidates to take action on the grant. read full story / add a comment

Every day, we cut down more forests and release more pollutants and toxins into the air and water. We can't change the system because a few corporations are making monstrous profits off destructive production techniques or resource extraction, and the world's political systems are controlled by murderous regimes in the pockets of the corporations. Mother Earth can only absorb so much damage. We have to act now! The purpose of eco-sabotage is to take the profit out of exploitation and take the profit out of murder (of human beings, animals, the planet) by damaging corporations in ways that cost them lots of money. When people think eco-sabotage, setting things on fire always comes to mind. Arson has its obvious merits, but people just getting into the practice of eco-sabotage may want to consider some alternatives. Arson, at least is in the United States, is a felony charge, incurring much more jail read full story / add a comment

This is an invitation to anyone who would like to join a direct action campaign to end Ireland's participation in Bush's so-called "war on terrorism". Refueling Peace is taking place within the context of an international peace movement seeking nonviolent responses to terror, and a movement in Ireland to defend our military neutrality and commitment to human rights. read full story / add a comment

A meltdown drill, intended to highlight the potential effects of a major accident at Sellafield is in progress in central Dublin. 15-20 individuals wearing chemical suits are leading the drill right now through Grafton Street, the city's main shopping street. They are informing bemused shoppers that fallout is on the way and are advising them on their possible courses of action. read full story / add a comment

Twenty to thirty chemicAL suited individuals have been observed here in the last 30 or 40 minutes positioning themselves throughout the centre of the town from the square right up Park Street. They are replying to querys about their presence by telling people to go about their business. This is a new one on us here in the town. Even the local Gardai seem to be clueless as to what is going on. They are however pointedly not interfering with the individuals in question. What is going on? What are these people up to? There is nothing on the news to suggest anything is amiss. read full story / add a comment

I have just spotted a large group of official looking figures sporting white chemical suits in the area of Trinity College. They appear to be positioning themselves throughout the south inner city area. On asking what they were up to I was told in no uncertain terms to go about my business. Is something happening that we don't know about? read full story / add a comment

It appears that our government yesterday got their shit together in an attempt to avoid further discussion of their inadequate response to the threat posed to the health and wellbeing of Irish Citizens by releasing to the media an update on their 'emergency plan'. What a spoiler - 'the helpline will be up and running Monday'. They appear to suggest that even in the event of an accident that there would be no evacuation of people involved. Dundalk would be evacuated - that's for sure - whether or not the government were involved. I see arrests at central bank in the near future.
