| Invitation to join 'Refueling Peace'![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Campaign to monitor and stop US military refuling in Ireland This is an invitation to anyone who would like to join a direct action campaign to end Ireland's participation in Bush's so-called "war on terrorism". Refueling Peace is taking place within the context of an international peace movement seeking nonviolent responses to terror, and a movement in Ireland to defend our military neutrality and commitment to human rights. As global citizens we will endeavour to monitor and stop US military refueling in Ireland. We will expose details of US military planes stopping-over here. We will openly, accountably, safely and peacefully disrupt these operations, which are mostly at Shannon airport. Our acts are intended to stop ongoing breaches of the Irish Constitution and our moral principles. We will do this as our part of an international citizens' initiative to nonviolently resist war and encourage a culture of peace. Refueling Peace is a practical way of peacefully disrupting part of a military machine which claims thousands of lives and consumes billions of dollars every year. It is also a way of withdrawing our consent for the US-led "war on terrorism" and Ireland's participation therein.
There is a (recycled!) mailing list for the Refueling Peace campaign and details about it below. I would like to basically start the ball rolling A.S.A.P. and therefore hurry the discovery process a bit by proposing that we take up the Trident Ploughshares model (nonviolence, accountability, affinity groups, action camps, mass-actions, consensus decision making, framework for others...). You'll find the handbook here: http://www.gn.apc.org/tp2000/hb3/index.html

Please join the mailing list and keep an eye on our website for updates. In a day or two we should have a "Rough guide to spotting military use of Shannon airport" ready. We'll also have a "know your rights" guide for plane spotters and stoppers soon. |
