Latest news on the imminent, though delayed, collapse of Dublin City Council is that the City Manager had a meeting yesterday with the Group Leaders of all the parties to find out of a compromise was possible. Compromise proving impossible Fitzgerald said he was going to tell the Minister the Council could not pass the Estimates some time today and most Councillors at the scheduled Council meeting last night were expecting the letter in the post disolving the Council at the end of this week or the beginning of next. Finally. read full story / add a comment

CARACAS, Venezuela, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Venezuela's army believes the country's crisis should be resolved by politicians and it will not intervene, either to stage a coup against President Hugo Chavez or to impose military rule, its commander said on Monday. "Who says we should get involved in the political game? Who says?" Gen. Julio Jose Garcia Montoya told Reuters in an interview at Fuerte Tiuna military headquarters in Caracas. read full story / add a comment

AN "ASSEMBLY of social movements met at the end of the European Social Forum in Florence. It agreed the following statement: "To all the citizens of Europe! Together we can stop this war! We are fighting for social rights and social justice, for democracy and against all forms of oppression. Respect We stand for a world of diversity, freedom and mutual respect. We believe this war, whether it has UN backing or not, will be a catastrophe for the people of Iraq-already suffering because of the embargo and Saddam Hussein's regime-and for people across the Middle East. It should be opposed by everyone who believes in democratic, political solutions to international conflicts because it will be a war with the potential to lead to global disaster. There is a massive opposition to war in every country of Europe. Hundreds of thousands have already mobilised for peace." read full story / add a comment

IG Farben was led, up until 1937 by the Warburg family, Rockefeller's partners in banking and in the design of Nazi German eugenics. Following the Nazi invasion of Poland in September 1939, Britain and Germany declared war on each other and World War II began. But later that month, Standard Oil executives flew to the Netherlands on a British Royal Air Force bomber and met with IG Farben executives. read full story / add a comment

That the absolute absence of news in main stream media in Ireland is a disgrace. Here is a country that is on the brink of a civil war. A war between rich and poor. A war between the controlling upper/middle class and poorer working class. A war between the prevalent economic ideas of the past 10 to 20 years and ideas of the past of Marx and other socialists. A war which is almost a metaphor for the for the entire time period since the end of the wall. Within Venezuela, there is the potent influence of America. Where they overthrow leaders who they dislike for taking trips to Cuba, or putting in place a foreign policy which differs to that of America. As Bush wants to get his hand on the control of massive amounts of oil, so that he may keep his highly polluting population with gas to drive read full story / add a comment
