The Social Market Foundation has carried out a survey on public attitudes to Net Zero and concluded that the "uninformed" and reluctant public are the problem. Why else would they say no to heat pumps?

Audio: Joe Higgins on Saturday View, and others

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday January 05, 2003 00:55author by kev - sp Report this post to the editors

Audio links to the RTE website, Joe Higgins (SP TD) on Rodney Rice show, Power, Protest & Wealth and Classic Goons.

Heres some audio links to the RTE website, you need Real Player to hear them, if you dont have it, go here:

http://www.real.com/realone/?src=realplayer

(u have to give an email address, but i think any old made up one will do, such as [email protected] - thats what i usually use for these things, prevents spam mail etc)

Saturday View with Rodney Rice, featuring Joe Higgins (SP), Alan Dukes (FG), Dick Roche (FF) and some PD (i think). I was half asleep when it was on, but it seemed quite interstiung, the subject being the EU. As usual there was the fair share of red bashing...

Hmmm, as I said above, there was a show on called Power, Protest & Wealth, but there doesnt appear to be a link. Is this conspiracy? Anyway, it was quite good, and about the Sweatshop industry in Bangladesh. I think its a series and will be on every saturday at 8pm i think.

Also, heres a link to the Goon show, classic mad comedy from Spike Milligan and friends. Didnt actually hear it this morning but anyway...

Just heard Joe. He's very interesting. Thought for a moment it was Neddy Seagoon --- an easy mistake to make.

But Joe is interesting. Better than a Max Bygraves LP. Where does he get his ties? He's always very well turned out -- a credit to the Trotskyist movement!

No if only Clair Daly would get a nice frock and do something about her hair she too could take her rightful place in Dail Eireann.

Did someone say Ray Cunningham was away for a facelift? I've missed his interesting posts telling people to "post a link and write a summary".

He would make a good attorney general. I know he's a bit of an anarchist but like the Spanish ones in 36 he could stretch a point and join the government couldn't he? I'm sure he'd be a lot nicer that McDowell.

the five anarchist who accepted ministries in the 1936 Spanish Republic did so under extreme circumstances, and represented the anarchist values of their assemblies.
They did not take part in all votes, their main contribution was resistance to the militarisation of the militias and providing of a free radio service.
This all occured during war.
a very nasty war.-
I listen to RTE too on occasion and I enjoy Joe Higgins appearances just as I enjoyed SF TD aongus o snodaigh on TD pay rates before Xmas.
From a distance you technical grouping co-members seem so alike :-)!!!!

This wouldn't be the same so-called 'Socialist Party' that seems to be supporting the undemocratic, CIA/bosses inspired attempt to overthrow the democratically elected President of Venzuela Hugo Chavez would it? No wonder you only get 1% of the popular vote in Ireland, and yet you have the fucking check to try and speak for the whole of the Left in Ireland.

That sectarian actually thinks that the SP are "supporting the undemocratic, CIA/bosses inspired attempt to overthrow the democratically elected President of Venzuela Hugo Chavez".

Get a grip, the Socialist Party are not! I really do wonder where you people get your ideas.

Whatever about Jofe, other SP members have described Chavez as a Bonapartist and a Populist dictator who will eventualy betray the Venezuelan masses.

You know it is possible to criticise Chavez, he's not some god figure that is perfect! CWI do raise criticisms of him, at the same time we do not support any right-wing coup. If you are going to criticise the Socialist Party/CWI why not read our positions first.

while I'm here I want to ask IMCers why they think Joe Higgins is different from the rest of the SP members? Hebe stated "Whatever about Joe....." What is it that make you people think that Joe holds radically different views to other SP/CWI members?

author by Hebepublication date Tue Jan 07, 2003 17:11author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The guy who puts the SP positions rather extremely.

I wasn't reffering to Joe Higgins. However since you have raised the matter; there are those of us who would have respect for Joe Higgins due to his long record of activism and willingness to work with other people. He is totally non-sectarian.

The same is not true of some of the SP/SY members who post to indymedia.ie

I don't believe Joe or Clare canvass on the doorsteps of North and West Dublin for the right of the Orange Order to march down the Garvaghy Road.

author by OK - SPpublication date Wed Jan 08, 2003 11:46author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Do you honestly think that SP members do not honestly give our positions on all the various issues when asked on the doorsteps. When "Joe or Clare canvass on the doorsteps of North and West Dublin" they do give a full account of our positions when asked.

We are proud of our programme and analysis and we are happt to engage in an honest debate on the doorsteps. In my own experience that we get asked quite regularly about different points on our programme. Of course people dont always agree fully, but much of the time they do agree.

Finally, you're positng does not give an honest assessment on our position on Orange marches. But I'm sure you know that!

author by Hebepublication date Wed Jan 08, 2003 14:37author address author phone Report this post to the editors

That is a fact.

You also blame Catholics for the situation at the Holycross school. I have yet to hear of the SP saying the blame for the bombing lies solely with loyalists.

You certainly have never put your support for orange marchs in election literature in the south.
