It has been long observed that people for some reason on their non-banking days readily absorb shite about Dangerous Places, Famous People, Sensible Saving Options, Holidays, Interesting facts, Sport results, Media, gardening and health as well looking ahead at “upcoming issues” and looking back at "how history was made".

Today is september 25 of 9th month.
It is also the 20th day of Elul, year of Moses 5765
It is also the 20 th day of Shaban, 1426 years since the Hegira.

We are looking at :- Iraq, Kate Moss, Kyoto, the Mercé festival, Millenium Goals, the GAA final, indymedia, locusts and as usual some of "my recollections / observations"

Nigeria produces 2.4 million barrels per day, 200,000 more barrels than have just been cancelled from the production of the USA. Understandably therefore any threat made to the Oil fields is big news.

the "Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force" (NDPVF) yesterday made just that threat, if their leader Moujahid Dkubo-Asari arrested on the 20th of September is not released within 48 hours.

Chevron have closed platforms and evacuated workers as have Shell - Nigeria's production is down 19,000 barrels according to british sources 26,000 barrels according to other sources. read full story / add a comment

As you know this summer the Zapatistas decided to form the "peaceful civic, nationalist, leftist and anti-capitalist" movement of Mexico and will participate in next years elections, and thus are preparing their federal tour in early 2006.

On the other side of Mexican politics, last wednesday the chief of Mexico's anti-narcotics police died along with many other high ranking officials in a helicopter crash. The incident was described by the govenment first as an accident but now speculation has grown that it was an attack. read full story / add a comment

news / spin / PR from UK biotech.

"Scientists have successfully transplanted human chromosomes into mice, a first that promises to transform medical research into the genetic causes of disease. The mice were genetically engineered to carry a copy of human chromosome 21, a string of about 250 genes. About one in a thousand people are born with an extra copy of the chromosome, a genetic hiccup that causes Down's syndrome" read full story / add a comment

This time "everyone" is going to do their best to avert apocalypse for the paycheck heads.

As as you'd expect, facing a category 5 hurricane, they've ordered evacuation of one million people.

And as you'll have learnt by now, everyone doesn't have a car to get out, and if you're very smart, you'll have realised that the rush on gasoline prices since Katrina didn't really help the poor folks stock up on fuel. read full story / add a comment

parties, the recruiting/info tables of Eco Soc, Human Rights Society, Sinn Fein, Socialist, Labour & Green Parties and the SWP were largely given over to the plight of the R5; postcards to them in Cloverhill were sold at cost and the students in the teeming Arus Na Maclein Hall were encouraged to sign the petition form - now over 16,000 signatures. The Eco Soc's showed Margaretta D'Arcys Shell to Sea documentary on their laptop.

the organisation "lunar Republic" have just started the long process of internationalising their proclamation and ideals, their web site has just launched and might prove a good umbrella or maybe not...

For many years now I have lamented the lack of a "space.indymedia", we have added biotech to the global list, we have seen many initiatives on satelite technology, but the issues of space, and the use and misuse of space exploration and speculation are yet to be drawn together by us. read full story / add a comment
