The Campaign against Bin Charges in Dublin continued over the weekend of 20th/21st September with a number of protests taking place in local areas in response to the jailing of Joe Higgins and Clare Daly. Bertie Ahern was also heckled at a Robert Emmett Commemoration on Saturday by anti Bin Charges campaigners. A major protest is planned for the evening of Monday 22nd starting at the Garden of Remembrance at 7.30 pm. read full story / add a comment

General Prisons Board was established in Ireland in 1878. Following the foundation of the State, its functions were absorbed by the Department of Justice. The Board was abolished in 1928. The anti-bin tax campaign in Stoneybatter took its first action today when it blockaded a bin truck just off the Oxmantown road. The truck was blockaded for one hour as a solidarity gesture with the campaign in Fingal. As Fingal council took a High Court case against bin tax protesters this morning bin tax campaigners in Cabra blockaded two trucks in solidarity with Fingal campaigners. Our intention is to hold onto at least one of these two trucks all day.
