Jump To Comment: 1One point if 1916 had not occured there would have been conscription. A wet day in Flanders would have killed more Irish than all of 1916 and the war of Independence, ok throw in the Civil War.
As it was there was economic conscription where the employers sacked those unwilling to sign up.
1916 put an end to that.
Our current crop of rulers want to send cannon fodder to Iraq and other places.
The Home Rule party and it's supporters were conned and the Irish People were realising this. Redmond and Dillon were responsible for a multiple of the casualties of 1916 because of their undemocratic support of British Imperialism.1916 accelerated this process of realisation.

Redmond and Dillon were responsible for a number of deaths which makes 1916 pale in comparison.Being antiwar does not mean being a pacifist.
