An deireadh seachtain seo beidh Ógra Shinn Féin ag cur tús le feachtas náisiúnta úrnua ag díriú ar sláinteachas bóithre. I ndiadh daoine ag cur lámh ina bhás féin sé timpistí bóithre an cúis báis is mó idir an t-aos óg. Is uafásach an scéal seo i sochaí an lae inniu, scéal atáimid ag iarraidh a athrú gaus sinn ag cur tús leis an bhfeachtas seo.

This weekend ÓSF will be launching a new national campaign which will focus on Road Safety. After suicide, an issue campaigned on in the past, road fatalities, are the biggest killer of young people in Ireland . This level of carnage is an unnecessary truism of today’s society, one which Ógra endeavour to change by undertaking this campaign.

An extraordinary community-teacher movement has been unfolding in Oaxaca, one of Mexico’s poorest, mostly Indigenous states. For months, 1.5 million people out of a population of 3.7 million have been on strike, have marched, held sit-ins and occupied radio and TV stations, to protest electoral fraud and the most violent repression Oaxaca state has ever seen. Women – teachers, housewives, students and others – have been prominent throughout. All sectors – priests, nuns, vendors, nurses, environmentalists and other professionals … are involved. .. read full story / add a comment

After our successful hijacking of the opening of the Woodie's DIY store in Limerick last week, the Limerick and Galway branches of the IPSC again combined forces, this time for an eight hour stint outside the boarded up Taffe's Sweater Shop in Shop Street yesterday. Fortunately, or unfortunately there was a coachload or two of Israeli tourists in town and a serious tranche of them were trigger happy and wanton with their spleen and denial when they chanced upon our Israeli Blood Diamonds petition/info table. read full story / add a comment

The man who was awarded the accolade "Mayoman of the Year" at a recent ceremony at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin was branded "unsatisfactory in the extreme" by a report of the Garda Síochána Complaints Board launched yesterday.

The board's chairman, Dr Gordon Holmes, who is former State solicitor for Limerick City, drew attention to the fact that in more than half the cases where the Garda Commissioner's attention was drawn to breaches of discipline by Gardaí, absolutely no action was taken against the offender, meaning the exercise of complaining was rendered pointless.

The Belfast Anarchist Black Cross will be hosting a meeting during the West Belfast Feile, regarding the issue of prison deaths in the north.
Entitled 'deaths behind bars' the meeting will focus on prison neglect and brutality resulting in the deaths of prisoners either through suicide or as a result of staff actions.
We have been in touch with the families of some victems and hope to have them address the meeting as well as the author of a recent report on human rights abuses of female prisoners.
The meeting will take place in the Culturlann on the falls road, on August 9th at 7.30pm read full story / add a comment

Mayo County Council (MCC) came back before Judge Kenny on Tue 31st July, for a full hearing of their application for an order of injunction against the Rossport Solidarity Camp (RSC) to “cease the unauthorised development of lands between the foreshore and the Northern Boundary of the town land of Dooncarton/Glengad by erecting tents, buildings and other structures and ancillary facilities for camping or habitation”. On foot of an ‘ex-parte’ (without notice to the camp) application to Judge Donagh McDonagh on Fri 20th July, MCC were granted an ‘interim order of injunction’, claiming urgency that the camp was causing irreparable damage to part of the Glenamoy Bog Complex at Dooncarton/Glengad, a candidate Special Area of Conservation (cSAC). The camp dispute that any such damage is occurring and say that this cSAC is all the more protected by it’s presence, given Shell’s plans for the area, and where their unauthorised developments are allowed without planning permission, facilitated by MCC. read full story / add a comment

ILLEGAL Guns on sale OPENLY at the Galway Races while Bertie bets on the horses.

Illegal firearms in the form of pellet guns with plastic bullets were on sale openly today at the Galway Races. Up to 15 stalls were observed selling three different types of guns from Handgun size to Rifle starting at 15 euro. Others including children were observed selling the illegal items from the back of vans.

‘These guns will no doubt be used to slaughter innocent cats, dogs and birds. The plastic orange bullets could also take a child’s eye out. We are disgusted at the Race organisers who obviously are turning a blind eye to this activity, along with a total disregard for the growing number of cruelty cases and deaths involved in Horse Racing.

The Law Reform Commission has today in the height of the balmy Irish Summer
released a PDF doc. on the removing of conviction from personal record -after time lapse-
The time mentioned in the report http://www.lawreform.ie is seven years. The time
lapse being pertinent , but no mention of the the crime. Being Pernickety here but surely
the type of crime removed from record is important too. Some sexual offences, for instance
carry only six month sentences, such as custodial time for down-loading internet child
porn. The issue of paedophilia and its sentences does not come into the report but
constraints will be placed on the people who have been imprisoned for crime in sensitive
areas such as in 'The Care of Children' read full story / add a comment

Yes, as far as the main stream media was concerned it never happened. It was only a Palestinian journalist who shot by the Israelis. He was then shot twice more by IDF members as he lay injured on the ground. Oh, and 11 palestinians were shot dead by the IDF that day; maybe it got a paragragh somewhere. Full story at link.

"It never happened..."
John Pilger

One of the leaders of demonstrations in Gaza calling for the release of the BBC reporter Alan Johnston was a Palestinian news cameraman, Imad Ghanem. On 5 July, he was shot by Israeli soldiers as he filmed them invading Gaza. A Reuters video shows bullets hitting his body as he lay on the ground. An ambulance trying to reach him was also attacked. The Israelis described him as a "legitimate target". The International Federation of Journalists called the shooting "a vicious and brutal example of deliberate targeting of a journalist". At the age of 21, he has had both legs amputated. read full story / add a comment
