It seems now that arch stickie Sean Garland will now escape extradition after all.
You might recall that he had to flee the 6 counties not so long ago to avoid the PSNI\RUC extraditing him to America to face allegations of forging US bank notes in collusion with N.Korea.

This is a result of the latest tete a tete between N.Korea and the US. In attempts to encourage the process it seems the yanks have agreed to overlook the whole forgery affair and thus it seems to be that Garland wont be donning an orange boiler suit with matching ear muffs anytime soon, and mores the pity in many peoples opinion (see a recent thread here on Indymedia on Garlands threatened extradition, if anyone has the link can they post it as I cant find it). read full story / add a comment

The current edition of the Mayo Advertiser carries an article on proceedings at Mayo Council's monthly meeting.

This month, Sinn Féin Cllr Gerry Murray proposed a motion calling on the Council to demand that the government renegotiate the current deal, whereby all the profits of the sale of the natural gas in the Corrib field will leave the country and go to the shareholders in Shell, Statoil and Marathon Oil.

Sinn Féin want to know why the money can't fund hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure projects in this country.

Cllr Murray pressed the FG Cllr present to say whether whether if, should that party be in govt after the general election, Enda Kenny would continue with the present policy of giving away the country's resources, but no answer was forthcoming.

The first part of the article is below and their is a link to the full piece: http://www.mayoadvertiser.com/index.php?aid=1316 read full story / add a comment

"While we stand here – watching tens of thousands of NYPD officers march in a parade with an explicit message of hate – African-American communities and other New Yorkers are gathering in Times Square to hold the NYPD to account for the murder of Sean Bell. Like us, they are standing up to fight the NYPD’s willful discrimination, its indifference to communities, its strong-arming of our streets, and its failure to take responsibility for creating a culture of violence." read full story / add a comment

We are all always told that the Health Service is rotten, broken, and flawed. This is not because this is true but because the FG/Labour run media conspire to keep the truth silent. Anyone who says that the health service is anything but a mess is critisiced and ridiculed. But this link shows the real truth, the truth of a health service on the mend, and being reformed...

The Sweet Dreams Educational project is based in Mopti, a small town in the West African State of Mali. If you want to find Mali on the map, look directly below Algeria. It’s that enormous, largely blank, chunk of desert between Mauritania and Niger, two other enormous, largely blank, chunks of desert.

To find Mopti, follow the river Niger down from Timbuctu. You’ll find Timbuctu on the Southern edge of the Sahara desert near a large bend in the river. Follow the River downstream, you have to look hard but eventually will come to Mopti.

It's hard to know where to start with this.

Is it that they have reduced the whole notion of Irishness to a running shoe with a leprachaun on it?

Is it the weird notion of having the colours of the Republican tricolour on an ugly pair of runners?

Is it the "kiss me I'm Irish?".

Is it the design of the lining showing an overflowing beer mug?

Is it the sheer awful, "Americaness" of it all? read full story / add a comment
