Another sunny if windy evening and we awaited the gathering of the mass at the Garden of Remberance in Parnell Square. By about twenty five past six we departed with about 35 cyclists and a couple of skateboarders. As usual the spirits were high and as we cycled down O’Connell street we gathered a few more cyclists who didn’t need much encouragement to join such a high spirited cycle though the city centre. read full story / add a comment

Readers familiar with the 'wry wit' of Noam Chomsky will certainly be able to identify with this magnification of his 1991 "Media Control" speech, which, in much detail, shows how one aspect of *Rollback* was, and continues to be stage-managed. For those who wish to understand how Unaccountable Power plays its games, so to undermine new strategies of *Rollback*, this article should be on everyone's list to read! read full story / add a comment

The Public Order Act, passed in 1994 and subsequently one of the more draconian and controversial pieces of Irish legislation, has come back into the public eye with the passing of amendments related to "trespassing" in the dying days of the Dáil. Activists have certainly been aware of this Act as it stands, as it's one of the most effective weapons of the Gardai when confronted with any demonstration. Even when it was originally passed, politicians argued about the wording for weeks and the President (Mary Robinson) summoned the Council of State to consider if it was even constitutional. The new offences have the potential, if used in a certain way, to further curtail civil liberties and the right to protest. They are directed towards members of the Traveller community - who have called a protest on May 2nd read full story / add a comment

As Tom pointed out in his detailed article here earlier (http://www.indymedia.ie/cgi-bin/newswire.cgi?id=2338&start=70), the American military aircraft that was recently refueling at Shannon airport is a multi-purpose tool for the war. When not providing aerial refueling to other military planes, this plane can be used to drop "Daisy Cutter" bombs. read full story / add a comment
