This important conference provides activists of all hues with a chance to reflect on the sources of violence in our culture. It aims to combine contributions from exciting and innovative theorists with the lived experience of grassroots resisters. Periods of reflection and sharing of experience and theory are often underestimated as a source of strength and wisdom, particularly in anti-war activism. I would therefore urge anyone who feels they have something to say about resistance to mainstream cultural imperatives that ask us to tolerate violence to think about contributing to this conference. If you do not feel able to do so, please think about attending and participating more informally. The information is below. The Institute for Feminism and Religion is a not-for-profit organisation. ILLEGAL Guns on sale OPENLY at the Galway Races while Bertie bets on the horses. Illegal firearms in the form of pellet guns with plastic bullets were on sale openly today at the Galway Races. Up to 15 stalls were observed selling three different types of guns from Handgun size to Rifle starting at 15 euro. Others including children were observed selling the illegal items from the back of vans. ‘These guns will no doubt be used to slaughter innocent cats, dogs and birds. The plastic orange bullets could also take a child’s eye out. We are disgusted at the Race organisers who obviously are turning a blind eye to this activity, along with a total disregard for the growing number of cruelty cases and deaths involved in Horse Racing. read full story / add a comment

Its two years after the G8 agreed to ‘Make Poverty History’ and yet 1 billion people are still without access to clean water, according to a recent report by the United Nations World Institute for Development. Both Bob Geldof and Bono have both described the situation as “a farce” with Bono even saying “I feel like a fool that I ever believed them”. Blackletter are organising a skills exchange project called '10x10x10', to take place in Autumn 2007 We are looking for proposals from artists or other interested parties who have an interesting or useful skill to share. 10 people will be selected to deliver 10 workshops over 10 weeks. Participants will receive a fee at the equivalent to a part-time lecturing rate for their workshop and preparation time. The republican youth movement Ógra Shinn Féin have launched a new national website. The website is in addition to the growing number of platforms that Ógra have opened up in the past year, including their blogspot, local websites, Glor na nÓg and Spark.
