While the Irish Government are still accepting worthless assurances that nothing untoward is being transported on US military and CIA planes being refuelled at Shannon airport, and has instructed Gardai not to search any such aircraft, a fascinating situation is now developing. ... read full story / add a comment

The EU commissioned Gallup, a very highly regarded polling organisation to dom a flash survey of the Irish electorate just after the Lisbon Treaty referendum. The results were widely released, but what was kept under wraps until today was a question about party support among voters.

Respondents in the telephone survey were asked if they usually supported and/or voted for a particular political party. There was no surprise that Sinn Fein supporters backed the No side overwhelmingly, but senior figures in the Labour Party must be pondering what it means when a majority of their supporters vote against the way the party leadership wants them to.

The Labour Party has yet to decide who will run for the EU Parliament elections next year. This poll will certainly make them think twice about who their candidates are. ... read full story / add a comment

The Tí Chulainn Cultural Activity centre, An Mullach Bán, in the picturesque ring of Gullion was the setting for Campa Náisiúnta Óige ‘08. The Centre is the jewel in the crown of South Armagh tourism and offers an insight into the rich cultural heritage of the region. The sloping hills of Slieve Gullion and meandering lakes between counties Armagh and Louth was an ideal setting for the 5th annual 3 day event.

From early Friday morning groups from throughout Ireland began arriving in South Armagh . By early evening a camp site was clearly evident to the rear of the Tí Chulainn centre.

The crew or crews of CIA plane have had a busy time recently, including a visit to Guantanamo on 3 June 2008. They arrived at Shannon on Friday 13 June, from Fort Lauderdale in Florida, via Newfoundland. They spent only about 30 minutes refuelling and left immediately for an unknown destination or destinations. On Saturday 14th June they were back at Shannon refuelled and again left quickly at about 12.40 pm on their way back to Florida again via Newfoundland. Today N54PA is back at Shannon for up to 10 hours as its crew probably "rest off" following their ardous and possibly nefarious activities ... read full story / add a comment
