The morning we would occupy the quarry headed by Lennon inc. (which is located about half an hour's drive away from rossport solidarity camp), began peacefully with few clouds in the sky and surprisingly, absolutely no wind, which I noticed as I walked by the still wind turbines planted beside the camp's communal kitchen and living room. ... read full story / add a comment

RNU have expressed dismay and concern at the sick antics of the Maghaberry administration who have again used the plight of seriously ill POW Tony Taylor to confuse and cause maximum distress to his wife and family. Yesterday afternoon, Tony (who suffers from injuries he sustained in an explosion in the early 90s), was taken from Maghaberry Gaol to an outside hospital after a severe infection caused his right arm to swell at an alarming rate. Tony who is on full dirty protest in Roe House, lost his spleen in the explosion and had his body peppered with shrapnel which is still present, this makes him vulnerable to infection as his immune system is particularly compromised. Infections if left untreated can lead to blood poisoning and in Tony’s case can prove fatal. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Disruption to the felling of the Coillte woodland for Shell's planned onshore pipeline (along with the stopping of haulage trucks to the Aughoose compound), continued today as protestors intercepted a specialist 8-track tree felling machine between the Aughoose tunnelling compound and Leenamore forest.

Shell today began to cut down a Coillte plantation in the village of Leenamore, Co. Mayo. This surprise move marks the beginning of their attempts to prepare the 4km stretch of land between the Aughoose tunnelling compound and the Bellanaboy refinery. Despite a large Garda and private security presence, campaigners entered the tree felling area and halted work. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Twenty five peace activists were again far outnumbered by security forces at Shannon airport at the January peace vigil.
Inside the airport three OMNI Air Troop carriers were under army and garda protection, at taxpayers expense. Garda and army personnel were not complaining of course, with their Garda overtime and army security allowances. The taxpayer may wish to question however, why Ireland is incurring such expenditure, in addition to waving many of the air navigation fees due to US military traffic over and through Ireland. This military air traffic is also breaching Irish neutrality on a daily basis. ... read full story / add a comment |
