This evening, from 6 to 7.20 PM, 15 Shell to Sea activists picketed the Westside Shell Service Station and we were much heartened by the unstinting support and warmth of the passing motorists, joggers and pedestrians - except for one pathetic creature shouting; "Get a job" and "Hippies" (true). Galway Shell to Sea were/are most appreciative of Sinn Fein and Socialist Party Young Turks who swelled and graced our ranks. ... read full story / add a comment

Today, in the High Court, before Justice Ms Mary Laffoy, Shell EP Ireland made its contemptible attempt to drop its legal action against the beleaguered Rossport landowners. Last year it was the big stick of State and Big Oil intimidation that sought to cow the legitimate concerns of the Erris community in the form of Cloverhill gaol, today, it was the rotting carrot, the Trojan Horse, that was the cynical ploy of ... read full story / add a comment

In Harreveld youth prison in the Netherlands children are raped. Inspection youthcare decided to investigate only after parents got this out in the news. They only decided that no new children should be put in this jail. . It is not just children that did something wrong that are placed in jail in the Netherlands. BJZ a company that keeps children after they take them from their parents and that are paid by the government, also places children in jail because it is a cheap solution and their goal is to make as much monies out of children as possible. Judges in the Netherlands look away and allways decide in favour of bjz and children are thus used as tools to get monies. ... read full story / add a comment

At 15.40pm three cops, one plain-clothes, two uniform, D reg car, were at the Shell to Sea picket H.Q. trailer filming. These police are now (16.05pm) at gate 2 of the Ballinaboy site. They are filming Shell to Sea activist Maura Harrington on the public road, when questioned why they said it was routine, the cop filming does not have identification numbers on his uniform. We got word today at 12 mid-day that the media have been informed by Shell that Shell intend to attempt access to the Ballinaboy former refinery construction site tomorrow. There is an increased police presence in Erris as of last Friday. SEPTEMBER 2006. To show our support for the SHAC 7 in USA we destroyed over 70 advertising signs for the Courtney Vegas so called 'American' circus from Wexford in Ireland. This circus now in Balgriffin uses animals in its acts and we have vowed to continue removing their advertising until they stop dragging animals around Ireland. Two MEAT RETAILER directional signs were taken and butchered in retaliation for the dead animals slaughtered for profit and sold in his shop in Dublin. >>Till all are free... >Animal Liberation Front. ... read full story / add a comment

Over 500 people turned out today for a great march against the US/UK war on Iraq and Afghanistan. Starting in Parnell Square it made its way down O'Connell where the suppport of passers by was occasionally made clear by cheers of support, up Dame Street and back down to the island on O'Connell St where we were all corralled during the speeches. It isn't clear why the organisers agreed to this corralling because it meant that almost no-one could see the speakers. Speakers were generally interesting - great to hear the Raytheon 9 spokesperson - but mostly were the same people who speak at every IAWM march or variations of same. Overall a good demo and fair play to the organisers. Shannon next on October 28th for the demo called by Antiwar Ireland! ... read full story / add a comment |
