Sometimes politicians have to lose to win so the other side can show its true colours. Trump is the standout example, says Prof James Allan. Had he won in 2020, we would not have had the blitz of the last four weeks.

I see from the RTE “news” that the Iraqi Special Olympics team has had to withdraw from the forthcoming games. Such a decision has to be welcomed given the understandable security considerations; some of the individuals accompanying the team could be agents of the Saddam Hussein regime with terrorist activity on their minds. Given the positive role our country has and continues to play in “Operation Iraqi Freedom”, such a terrorist threat has to be taken serious. I know our government and security forces will be on constant alert in order to ensure the safety of all citizens and foreign residents. In these difficult and stressful times, we can be proud that our country is standing by the forces of freedom and democracy, and supporting leaders of courage and determination like President Bush and Prime Minister Blair. ... read full story / add a comment

They consider RTE's coverage to be anti-war???!!! ... read full story / add a comment

Amnesty International urges all governments to respect the right of people to express peacefully their opinions, and to refrain from using the war in Iraq as a pretext for curtailing or abusing fundamental human rights. ... read full story / add a comment
