Since my last post about Shannon airport and my court cases here there have been quite a few developments -- questions in the parliament, TV documentaries, radio discussions, more talk of a Shannon peace camp, plans for a Shannon demo on December 8th, and mention of the Irish "refueling for war" situation in newspapers and newsletters internationally. Others have already posted articles about those stories. This is an update mostly about the court processes I am in now, and I'm hoping that you'll continue to support what I'm trying to do. ... read full story / add a comment

A few hundred people participated in a Cork Peace Alliance anti-war demonstration through the streets of Cork today (16 November). The protest, in the form of a mass funeral, was led by a coffin marked 'Irish neutrality', which in turn was followed by mourners bearing wreaths. Hundreds of leaflets, highlighting the use of Shannon airport by US forces, were distributed and there was a very favourable response from onlookers. One particularly striking feature of the protest was the presence of large numbers of teenagers. ... read full story / add a comment

Perhaps a protest at the Italian embassy is in order, November 15th, early morning: 42 people have been arrested with charges of conspiracy and "subversive association" (art.270 bis c. p. Italy). The charges against them are of political conspiracy to disturb government activity, subversive propaganda aimed at subverting economic order. They are directly connected to the G8 protests in Genova and the Napoli Global Forum. ... read full story / add a comment

The fallout from the European Social Forum among left wing parties, groups and individuals should be huge. The organisers of the ESF, many of whom were involved in the Genoa Social Forum, estimated that attendance would be around 20,000 for the forum and 150000 for the demonstration. In fact, 57,000 signed up for meetings for the FIRST European Social Forum and 1 million marched ... read full story / add a comment

In Ireland, Marxism is for a) posh gits with nothing better to be doing with their time or b) "D4" types who can afford to embrace socialism, because they know that when the economy goes belly-up, they'll still be able to get a job in Daddy's accountancy firm in Foxrock. The publication of a secret letter detailing "unorthodox" practices in the WSM is set to rock Indymedia. The letter, leaked to British anarchist paper "Class War" has been claimed to be "politcal dynamite". "This could finally be the explanation everyone has been waiting for as to why Ray C left the WSM in a huff a few months ago. Relations are strained between Andrew and others since a bizarre cult like wedding was enacted in the recent past. One Russian novelist declared "Fuck me sideways!" Rose was slated to win the Bakunin Brass Knuckle but no-one is clear if she is in or out. More later. ... read full story / add a comment

I wish to heartily thank the Socialist Party in Belfast for making possible our recruitment stand in Queens University. It isn't often we have such co-operation from the civilian population. But with ops hotting up in fuzzy-wuzzy-land we need all the strapping lads we can get. With a bit of luck we'll all be home for Christmas. I remember my grandfather Brigadeer "Potty" Smythe telling me how grateful he was to Mr Redmond for the help in the 1914 spat (and of course Labour too). Nice to know some things don't change.
