I wish to express my serious concerns regarding the recent publication by the H.S.E. of the Hynes report on the death of Peter McKenna and related matters. Peter McKenna was 60 years old and had Down syndrome. He lived in St Michael's House until he was moved against the family's wishes to Leas Cross Nursing Home where he died. ... read full story / add a comment

I'm trying to get a video activist collective together in similar vien to Undercurrents or The Camcorder Guerillas. There is a room taken on the top floor of Seomra Spraoi in which a video editing workstation and cd/dvd duplicator will be going into in the near future.

Hopefully this will start to gather momentum in the New Year.

I have been told by very reliable sources that the buses will be stopping at noon, builders are downing tools at 9am, the CWU are telling their members to take part, and they'll be Marching from the CWU Head Office to join up with the main rally at Parnell Square, the CPSU, IMPACT and MANDATE are telling their members to take part, SIPTU are more or less instructing all their members to take part, and the schools will be closed. All we need now is for all the ESB to come out, and that will enforce a nationwide shutdown regardless of the scabs out there. I would appreciate any other reports of other workers walking off the job. ... read full story / add a comment

…from The Times (UK):

“Colonel Barry Johnson, the United States military spokesman in Baghdad, said the US military is reviewing the video ‘to see if an investigation is warranted and whether to open one’. Colonel Johnson, added: ‘They [the US military] are assessing it to determine if there is any evidence that warrants an investigation. The first indication I had of this case was some days ago.’

Foreign contractors are required to obey the same rules as the military in warning civilian motorists not to approach convoys by waving them away and firing warning shots. Part of the video footage appears to show a civilian car accelerating towards the convoy vehicle.” ... read full story / add a comment

After 3 1/2 years of activism - 3 of which have been spent on bail & in legal jeopardy - Dublin Catholic Worker defendants are taking 6 months off! The length of the legal process, absence form family & friends, limited resources have all taken their toll and demand that most of the defendants have to leave Dublin for a time. We'll be back at the beginning of June organizing around our third trial and in opposition to continued Irish participation in the U.S invasion of Iraq.

We are hoping to keep our house going and are wondering if there are any sympathetic folks interested in renting in a shared house with an anti-war orientation and solidarity with the ploughshares defendants.
