On December 9th 2005 Irish people from all walks of life who care about people been treated with decency and honesty in the workplace took to the streets to protest Irish ferries attempt to introduce slavery into Ireland. The protest was more akin to a people marching toward justice rather then the carnival like anti war demos of recent years. The march in Dublin was my first of view of how Irelands labour movement looks when mobilized and it looks good. Imagine what we could achive if the leaders of that movement woke up and fought for the people they are supposed to fight for? What follows is my account of the march. I am a memeber of the IBOA however the opinions given in the article are entirly my own. ... read full story / add a comment

Friends of the Earth has welcomed the outcome of the UN climate talks as an historic step forward. The Montreal Action Plan (MAP) was concluded despite a last minute intervention from Russia which almost resulted in deadlock.

Friends of the Earth Director in Ireland, Oisin Coghlan said:

"Despite Russia's last minute jitters, the Montreal meeting has made a historic agreement which will strengthen global resolve with legally-binding targets to take action to tackle climate change under the Kyoto Protocol. It has sent a clear signal that the future lies in cleaner and more sustainable technologies and is good news for people and the planet." ... read full story / add a comment

The right-wing parties’ decision for Denmark to participate in the Iraq war is not popular among the voters. And not at all among the women. The Danish People’s Party has a particular problem with the Danish forces in Iraq.

For the first time, an opinion poll from Gallup shows a majority opposed to Danish participation in the Iraq war. 52 percent of Danes do not think it was a correct decision, while 43 percent support participation.

This was reported in the Danish conservative daily, Berlingske Tidende, on Sunday. ... read full story / add a comment

This weekend, as the French state celebrated 100 years since the law that seperates state :+: church in education and beyond. French youth have enjoyed secular secondary education and been taught the values of the republic "liberty equality fraternity" fo 100 years. As insidiously the triad of republican values has seen added the quaternion (*) "Equity" added. France has changed: 500 French youth were attacked by police last night for attempting a rave in Rennes, shouting as near 40 were arrested "Liberté!".

On Sundays I occasionally publish an opinion piece:-

I want you to ponder how Mrs Larkin told Jim he looked great just because she was on her knees, and then she arose, and that beautiful human detail is what seperates you from and joins you to the birth of the Irish Labour movement. Jim thought it was such a funny line, and would be a secret testament to
