21 years after the Bhopal Gas disaster, which has resulted in 20,000 deaths to date, survivors have still not received justice, or adequate compensation, and the factory site itself has yet to be cleaned up. Many Bhopalis are still drinking poisoned water, while the officials responsible for the plant, including Union Carbide CEO Warren Anderson, continue to abscond from facing legal proceedings for their callous negligence. Thus, a group of sixty Bhopalis have embarked on an 800 km walk for justice from Bhopal to New Delhi, where they will meet with the Prime Minister and voice their demands, following it up with a hunger strike if action is not taken. They have been on foot for more than a month now and are due to arrive into India's capital city and political Centre on 25th March. ... read full story / add a comment

A crowd of less than 800 people gathered at Parnell square for the annual IAWM march to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the Iraq invasion on Saturday. All the usual suspects turned out including the Labour Party, Socialist Party, SWP and CPI as well as the Cosaintori, PANA and “code pink” a womens anti-war organisation. Anarchist youth had issued a call for a red and black bloc to meet at Parnell square and roughly 80 anarchists turned up. This contingent was easily the most vibrant and colourful part of the march with over twenty red and black flags flying and several large banners carried by the bloc including the WSM, Anarchist Youth and “Anarchists against the War” banners. The bloc slotted itself in at the front of the march for a change with about 50 people ahead of us. The trolley-based sound system blasted out Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” as Gardai took up flank either side of us. The Garda presence seemed to be entirely concentrated around the red and black bloc with a CCTV camera mounted on a Garda van leading the march. ... read full story / add a comment

Approximately 400 people from various leftist groups gathered in Plac Zamkowy central Warsaw today to remember the third anniversary of the US led coalition forces invasion of Iraq on March 20th, 2003. Poland has a very pro-U.S. gvt. political playing field and initially sent 200 elite troops to partipate in the invasion. This was followed up with an additional 2,000 soldier reinforcements in August '03 to relieve beleagured occupying US forces in difficult Shia-dominated provinces in southern Iraq. ... read full story / add a comment

Members of FEIC - Foyle Ethical Investment Campaign, PANA, Amnesty Galway Volunteers, Gluaiseacht and Na Cosantóirí Síochána, the Peace Network joined forces at Shannon, to push once more for the vindication and protection of our constitutional rights to voice our dissent at the ongoing Government facilitation of crimes against humanity at Shannon Airport. Despite anticipated harassment by Gardaí and Airport Police who cooperated in an aggressive assault to grab and steal our banners, we stood our ground, kept hold of our property and insisted on our rights to stay put. For the next few hours we spoke to many interested local and international journeymakers and visitors who were happy to take and wear the 'black shamrock' badges in solidarity with us, the Iraqi people, the tortured and the dead. Bearing in mind the recent ‘fly in protest’ visit of the Peace And Neutrality Alliance of Independant TD's and Senators to Shannon and their announcement of future plans for similar actions, and considering the recent instructions from the DPP directing Shannon Gardaí to withdraw all charges against Cosantóirí Síochána activists arrested for a banner protest on the restaurant balcony at Shannon in September 2005, we invite PANA and all other peace activists to join us at Shannon in further asserting and demanding the defence and protection of our rights to peaceful assembly and protest under Article 40 of Bunreacht na hEireann, the Irish Constitution. ... read full story / add a comment

It has been long observed that people for some reason on their non-banking days readily absorb shite about Dangerous Places, Famous People, Sensible Saving Options, Holidays, Interesting facts, Sport results, Media, gardening and health as well looking ahead at “democratic evolution” and looking back at "how history was made". in this edition, the first since the "Mozart Edition" of Jan. 8, I will touch briefly on the three years since the Iraq war, Whats happening in France on the class politics front and in Peru and Italy on the lead-up to their general elections next month, and a even shorter mention of the Zapatista's other campaign in Mexico. & a bit of religiosity too. ... read full story / add a comment

A well dressed male in his fifties, dressed in a tweed sports jacket and trousers, wearing a hunting or fishing hat, which seemed outlandisly old-fashioned stalked me from the bank of ireland through the Swan Centre , except that I only became aware that he was doing this when I got to the most mundane of places, the fish counter. The place to discuss the price of fish and smile in to your eyes, to grab your hand and hit on you. Fair enough, let go my hand. I don't want to go for a coffee, in fact I have an appointment. The grip on my hand got harder and he kept eye-contact as he ground my ring into the bone of my finger. There we are standing in a crowded shop in broad daylight and he is getting his jollies by studying minutely the change in my face from friendliness, to awareness,to fear. He wants to capture that and take it home with him.I ripped my hand away and continued shopping, he followed me through three aisles. Why didn't I shout, or land him on the floor or ask for help? I still don't know the answer to the question. I reported it to the manageress , who gave a descrition to security guy, who stood watching me pack up and walked me to the door. He tells me to get a cup of tea and come back . They will pull the cctv. Thanks security guy. I returned with a friend an hour later. I haven't heard anything since. I suppose that it looked almost mundane on the footage. ... read full story / add a comment

I thought that this story would be reported/posted by PANA or somebody more directly involved in organising the event, but it has hasn't happened, so I here is my very short version: On Wenesday, 15 March, a fly-in protest (organised by the Peace and Neutrality Alliance) occurred at Shannon airport. Those who fly in were Roger Cole (PANA), Tony Gregory TD, Senator David Norris, John Maguire (Anti-War Ireland), Finian McGrath TD, John Gormley TD, A. O Snodaigh TD, Joe Costello TD, Joe Higgins TD, Fintan Lane (Anti-War Ireland) and Tommy Broughan TD. We boarded an 11.30 flight at Dublin and flew direct to Shannon in order to avoid the usual security attempts to quash Shannon protests, We were joined by Jan O'Sullivan TD at Shannon. As protests go, it was relatively uneventful, except insofar as it actually happened. It was a clever initiative by PANA that alllowed us to successfully avoid the clampdowns that have suppressed all protests at the airport since 2003. On a personal note, it was nice to be part of an anti-war protest within Shannon airport terminal, having been banned from the entire county for a two-year period. The struggle does on. A protest was held within terminal and also outside the front door. ... read full story / add a comment
