Despite repeated attempts by the Office of Public Works (OPW) to move them on the Tara Solidarity Vigil remain camped out on the Hill of Tara. They have become a focus of opposition to plans to build a new motorway (M3) through the Tara valley. As opposition grows they have received increasing messages of support not just from Ireland but around the world also. Norwegians, in particular, have taken a keen interest in developments on the Hill due to a sense of shared history they have with Ireland.

As I write this article I know from the outset that UCC and their legal attack dogs – possibly McCann Fitzgerald, who have carved out a lucrative career from pursuing UCC’s legal hounding of employees and staff - will almost certainly be coming after me. I should declare an interest immediately. A close member of my family attempted a so far unsuccessful challenge to UCC as a consequence of a refusal to cooperate with what he believes were inappropriate and possibly corrupt practices within the Department of Applied Social Studies at UCC. That issue is not the subject of this article.

It is becoming apparent that sections of the U.S. Secret Service are presently in Dublin preparing the way for the arrival of ex-U.S. Presidents George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton attending the Ryder Cup. The televised gaze of the world turns to Ireland with the arrival of these two men who faciltated the deaths of over a million children under the age of 5 (UNESCO) under the 12 year geocidal sanctions regime on Iraq. ... read full story / add a comment

The non-aligned nations of the UN have opened what they hope will be a key note summit. & the venue brings them back to the home of their main instigator Fidel Castro. For news-readers presently swamped with notions of "clashes of civilisation" and the hegemony of Capitalism in all its forms (from neo-liberal through neo-conservative right up to third way Blairism and all the way down to PD celtic tigerism) the list of speakers & leaders is quite thought provoking, more so when one sees photos of them hugging and kissing & behaving like little girlies for the camaras.

Iran's Mahmood, Ahmadinezhad - Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.
Zimbabwe's Richard Mugabe - Alexander Lukashenko of Belorus
Evo Morales of Bolivia - & giving his first speech to an international conference as acting head of state (& the only autistic to ever have held such office) Raul Castro.

One Race the Human Race

Part I: The Political Economy of Genocide

Documentary (Duration 42 mins)

This short film by no means tries to give a what, when, where, who and how analysis of the conflict taking place in the Lebanon, Palestine and Israeli (Iraq). It is a collection of mostly images and video taken off various Indymedia sites around the world and merged together to give an incomplete and brief snap shot montage sequence of the consequences of state violence and apathy to the suffering of human beings for narrow selfish political reasons.

Dedicated to IMC journalists in Lebanon, Palestine and Israel.

On this day 50 years ago IBM unveiled its RAMAC (Random Access Memory Accounting Machine). A computer machine which weighed several tonnes & occupied the same space as a bunch of fridge freezers. It was the first hard drive which could be searched & accessed without starting from the "beginning" of the data flow & running to the end, such as one must do with a magnetic tape.

Between 13/9/56 and its withdrawl from the market in the mid 1960's IBM sold over 6,000 of the units each of which could store 5 megabytes of information. ... read full story / add a comment
