SEPTEMBER 2006.

To show our support for the SHAC 7 in USA we destroyed over 70 advertising signs for the Courtney Vegas so called 'American' circus from Wexford in Ireland. This circus now in Balgriffin uses animals in its acts and we have vowed to continue removing their advertising until they stop dragging animals around Ireland.

Two MEAT RETAILER directional signs were taken and butchered in retaliation for the dead animals slaughtered for profit and sold in his shop in Dublin.

Over 500 people turned out today for a great march against the US/UK war on Iraq and Afghanistan. Starting in Parnell Square it made its way down O'Connell where the suppport of passers by was occasionally made clear by cheers of support, up Dame Street and back down to the island on O'Connell St where we were all corralled during the speeches. It isn't clear why the organisers agreed to this corralling because it meant that almost no-one could see the speakers. Speakers were generally interesting - great to hear the Raytheon 9 spokesperson - but mostly were the same people who speak at every IAWM march or variations of same. Overall a good demo and fair play to the organisers.

The Drimagh Anti Bin Tax Campaign has organised very effective protests at Davitt Road Depot over the last two Saturdays. Over 250 people have turned up at the depot, wheelie bins in tow and have disposed of waste bags in an effective and organised fashion at the depot in protest at the non collection of our bins for non payment of the double tax of Bin Tax. These protests have served two purposes. 1. Solidarity and public protest at non collection and 2.a practical way for people who cannot dispose of their waste into the bin trucks on the mornings of the collection because of work. ... read full story / add a comment

There are few details but a woman from the Congo had refused a blood transfusion
after haemorraging this morning at the Coombe, women's Hospital. She had given birth
to a baby boy.

Complications ensued which led to the loss of 80% of her blood.
She refused Transfusion.
The Coombe Applied to the Courts.
The Court ordered the transfusion.
Mainstream is calling it a landmark decision.

Questions:- Is birth , the birthing process a mental illness/a physical illness?
Does the patient have the right to a voice in their treatment.
Was she made a ward of court in order for the Hospital authority to over-rule
her wishes which coukd have been ethical/religious. ... read full story / add a comment

Despite repeated attempts by the Office of Public Works (OPW) to move them on the Tara Solidarity Vigil remain camped out on the Hill of Tara. They have become a focus of opposition to plans to build a new motorway (M3) through the Tara valley. As opposition grows they have received increasing messages of support not just from Ireland but around the world also. Norwegians, in particular, have taken a keen interest in developments on the Hill due to a sense of shared history they have with Ireland.

As I write this article I know from the outset that UCC and their legal attack dogs – possibly McCann Fitzgerald, who have carved out a lucrative career from pursuing UCC’s legal hounding of employees and staff - will almost certainly be coming after me. I should declare an interest immediately. A close member of my family attempted a so far unsuccessful challenge to UCC as a consequence of a refusal to cooperate with what he believes were inappropriate and possibly corrupt practices within the Department of Applied Social Studies at UCC. That issue is not the subject of this article.

It is becoming apparent that sections of the U.S. Secret Service are presently in Dublin preparing the way for the arrival of ex-U.S. Presidents George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton attending the Ryder Cup. The televised gaze of the world turns to Ireland with the arrival of these two men who faciltated the deaths of over a million children under the age of 5 (UNESCO) under the 12 year geocidal sanctions regime on Iraq. ... read full story / add a comment
