On Wednesday, February 27th, news broke of the Health Services Executive’s decision to freeze funding for homeless services. This move makes an absolute mockery of government policy and the official target to eliminate homelessness by 2010. Organisations working with people who are homeless have already begun to feel the pinch of what is effectively a cutback. ... read full story / add a comment

In Ireland the standard working week is 39 hours long, and anything over that is overtime. Of course, the bosses don't pay us for travelling to and from their premises (what do they think we are doing - sightseeing?) and if they can get away with it they won't pay us for lunch or breaks, so we end up spending a lot more of our waking lives with them and the crew they have picked to make money for them, than we do with our family or friends. ... read full story / add a comment

The Progressive Film Club is a voluntary organisation that has been established to show progressive films—in the broadest sense of that term—from all over the world. Struggles for people’s rights, for the rights of workers, of immigrants, of women, for national liberation and for social justice are some of the themes of the outstanding films we have shortlisted, most of them never shown before in Ireland. Showings are on Sunday evenings at the New Theatre in East Essex Street. Booking through Connolly Books—or come early to avoid disappointment. ... read full story / add a comment
