The fires which killed over 30 people mostly children in Paris this summer, brought impetus to the French migrant support groups, and housing organisations.

Chirac expressed shock and horror. De Villepin's government promised action and a "census" of slum housing where France's african migrants live.

Pretty soon after the police moved into forceably evict the houses on the census list, arresting those within, processing them for deportation and sending them off to the migrant detention centres "for their own good".

Chirac collapsed the same day.

Early this morning a squatted building at 21 rue Maroc (19th arrrond) was evicted in the same style. ... read full story / add a comment

A sample selection of images from the exhibition, 'Images of Resistance' are enjoying widespread viewership (is there such a word?) in two cafes based in the 'Italian Centre', Dublin. The centre is beside the Millenium Bridge (next to the Halfpenny Bridge), it's the buildings built by Mick Wallace's workers. You may remember the sites being draped by huge canopies bearing different slogans during there construction, 'capitalism means war' being one. Mick ruffled a lot of feathers and won.
The sale of the prints will help finance the exhibition and one or more of the photographers to travel to different locations. Some posters of the exhibition are still available at only €1 each. Lots a great food at reasonable prices too!

A huge of amount of suport was expressed for the families of the Rossport Five by supporters of both teams contesting the Hurling All-Ireland final at Croke Park yesterday (Sunday 11th September 2005). Although both sides expressed admiration for the men and their heroic fight against the injustice of being jailed for peacefully protecting their community, most collecters going around the pubs felt that the Galway supporters were more generous. Perhaps they simply know more about the case in Galway?

An enormous amount of money was raised, and over a thousand stickers were given out.

This money will support the five men in their fight. ... read full story / add a comment
