As another year begins, peace and human rights activists in Ireland’s mid-West continue to oppose the role of Shannon airport in war and torture. The first events of the year will include a Peace Camp commemoration on Jan 6th, followed by the regular monthly vigil on Jan 11th. On New Year’s Eve, Ógra Shinn Féin mobilised at the Diamond in Derry City alongside other political groups, to demonstrate solidarity with the beleaguered people of Gaza, who are being, murdered and injured in their hundreds daily by Israeli rockets.

Following the protest the assembled groups and activists, met to decide further co-ordinated solidarity acts for Palestine which include a public rally in Guildhall Square Derry this Saturday at 3pm.

North West Support for Gaza

The North West Solidarity Network, based in Donegal and Leitrim, have issued a statement condemning the slaughter in Gaza which has hugely escalated since Saturday 27th December with at the time of this press release deaths standing at over 350 people. North West Solidarity Network, which organises events in solidarity with Palestine, has called on people to become involved to provide support for the besieged people of Gaza.

For the third day running Palestinian and Palestine solidarity activists demonstrated in Dublin against the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza which has now left over 320 Gazans dead, and over 1,000 injured. This evening's protest was staged outside the Israeli and United States Embassies and was attended by over 300 people - many of whom have been directly affected by the tragic events in Gaza.
