Stephen Lendman in a Znet article http://www.zmag.org/znet/viewArticle/18348 succinctly puts the moral imperatives behind the Free Gaza Movement's brave sailings to the Israeli besieged Gaza Strip: "After Hamas' January 25, 2006 electoral victory, Israel targeted Gaza oppressively. All outside aid was cut off. Sanctions and an economic embargo were imposed, and the democratically elected government was falsely called a terrorist organization and isolated. Stepped up repression followed along with repeated IDF incursions, attacks, killings, targeted assassinations, arrests, destruction of property and more in a pattern all too familiar to Palestinians for over six decades. Gazans are imprisoned in their own land and have been traumatized for months. In June 2007, things got worse after Israel placed the Territory under siege - described by some as medieval because of its extreme harshness". ... read full story / add a comment

Shell announced second quarter profits of $8,000,000,000 today. The company is currently exploiting Irish Natural gas off the west coast for which it is liable for zero royalties. While tax may be charged at some point in the future on Shell Ireland's profits, the Anglo-Dutch company has shown itself to be skilled in avoiding tax when it can. Irish gas bills for domestic users are set to raise by 20% in September, with another 20% rise expected in the new year. The Irish state owns no stake in the Corrib field. New licences on the same giveaway terms are currently being issued for Irish offshore blocks in the Rockall Basin. http://www.dcenr.gov.ie/Natural/Petroleum+Affairs+Divis...d.htm ... read full story / add a comment

ARAN activists recently staged a protest on the steps of the Australian embassy in Dublin to call for an end to live cruel sheep exports from Australia. Our activists cordoned off the area as a crime scene with barrier tape reading 'crime scene do not enter' whilst the 'sheep' played dead and covered in fake 'blood' layed on the steps, whilst other members held placards calling for an end to the cruel live export of sheep. Press coverage was fantastic helping to direct the public's attention to cruelty to animals - all in all a very positive, upbeat event to draw attention to a very serious issue. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()
