Tá eagraithe Slógadh na n-Óg thar a bheith sásta leis an ócáid ar fad a bhí ar siúl ag an deireadh seachtaine. Bhí muid ag súil go dtiocfadh léar mór daoine amach chuig an an ócáid agus sin a tharla. Bhí an-chuid baill d’Ógra Shinn Féin i láthair fosta agus measann muid gur bhain achan daoine an-sult agus an-tairbhe as. Bhí an deireadh seachtaine féin lonnaithe i gceantar álainn Thír Chonnaill, i sráidbhaile beag darbh ainm Dún Lúiche, suite faoi scáth mhór Earagail. Roghnaíodh an áit áirithe seo fá choinne an tslógaidh de bharr an mhéid ghaeilge a labhairtear ann, atá go h-ard agus de bharr na tacaíochta áitiúla don slógadh a chuaigh go mór chun ár leasa. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

15 members of the police officers, prison guards and doctors were found guilty of brutality, including physical and mentally torturing at the G8 summit in Genoa in 2001 and sentenced to between five months' and five years' imprisonment. The charges include abuse, fraud, criminal coercion and inhuman and degrading treatment. One demonstrator was shot dead by police and hundreds more injured at the summit in the city of Genoa that was hosted by Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi. The heaviest sentence of five years was given to an inspector in the penitentiary police department. All those convicted are expected to appeal and none will go to prison until the appeals process is complete, which normally takes years. The lengthy trial proceedings and the statute of limitations mean that none of the defendants will serve any time, but the verdict paves the way for a major compensation claim. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

The National Animal Rights Association staged another protest outside the Pearl Brasserie, on Saturday 12th July. We stayed there for over 2hours, had no hassle whatsoever on the night, and received a lot of support from passers-by. No Gardai were called, and the protest went without incident. We have already gotten 4 restaurants to stop serving this dish of cruelty, and we won't stop until we get a total ban on the import of foie gras in Ireland. If you'd like to get involved in our campaigns, or know of any restaurant not on our list that is serving foie gras, please get in touch. ... read full story / add a comment

It is believed the long-standing Drogs fan, aged about 50 shouted ‘n****r’ and other racist comments at Drogheda’s Senegal-born striker Ibrahima Iyane Thiam during the recent home game against Sligo Rovers. Iyane Thiam, starting a game at United Park for the first time, was unaware of the tirade, but stewards moved in to evict the man after he was reported by other Drogheda supporters who had heard the vile remarks. ... read full story / add a comment

Over the past few years i have raised in indymedia the damage done to the working class movement by left sectarianism and advocated that attempts be made by left groups and left activists to work together much more. For this I have been attacked and slandered by the leadership of the old organization of which I was a part, the Socialist Party in Ireland. I am very glad to see that the Socialist party in Britain now appears to be taking steps in the direction of trying to work together with other groups on the left. I hope when I raise this again i will not be treated as some sort of heretic. Comradely, John Throne. ... read full story / add a comment

The DIBC and Éirigí organised a joint picket on Saturday (5th) , supported by other organisations and individuals, to protest the ill-treatment and torture of Basque political prisoners by the Spanish and French states. Over 530 Basque political prisoners are being systematically dispersed by the two states throughout their territories but away from their homeland and their families. Many prisoners and detainees complain of being ill-treated and some of being tortured. Meanwhile, political prisoners are having to serve longer sentences unless they renounce their former activiities and allegiances. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()
