This is a request for people to put pressure on Van Oord to help force them from Broadhaven Bay.Van Oord is the company contracted by Shell to carry out dredging work for the off-shore gas pipeline. Today (5/06/09), when activists from the Solidarity Camp occupied one of Van Oord’s two dredging machines, the “Razende Bol”, they were met by severe violence from Shell security aboard the ships. One protester was thrown overboard by two security guards. (See: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/92596 or youtube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC7xrRQHQ6k ). Following this incident the Van Oord ships stopped working and left the area. Despite official statements from Van Oord claiming that they left due to bad weather, a Shell security guard told people that their departure was due to protester action and that Van Oord were unwilling to work with the reckless Shell security endangering protesters and compromising workers safety. ... read full story / add a comment

When the Warzone Centre/Giros closed in 2003 a lot of people in Belfast didn’t realise what they’d had until it was gone. Since then different individuals and groups have talked about maybe getting something going again. The will was certainly there but some sort of catalyst was needed and then towards the end of 2007 a few of us discussed resurrecting the Warzone label to bring some of the old bands into the digital age; to document those times but also, more poignantly, we hoped that it would maybe inspire people to get motivated. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

The fight to protect the Tara landscape from the destruction caused by the Double Tolled M3 Motorway took a surprising turn earlier this month. Some 14 protesters, some of whom had been subject to strict bail conditions for the last two years, had cases against them dismissed at Trim District Court. This was a matter of major public concern but it passed silently and without any interest from the mainstream media. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()
