Approximately 25.000 people took to the streets of Dublin today to call, yet again for the ending of the Irish governments support for the illegal and immoral American led war in the mid-east. The protest was attended by people from all walks of life and from all over the world. INLA political prisoner Paddy O'Toole, held for a year in isolation in the punishment bunker of Portlaoise Prison has been driven insane and has been removed to the Dundrum facility for mentally insane prisoners. After a year of cruel and degrading treatment Justice Minister McDowell succeeded in driving him insane. There is concern now for another prisoner subject to the same cruel and degrading treatment in the punishment block. Eddie Heeney, a CIRA prisoner, is already in ill health. 400 people marched in Limerick today starting at 2pm from Penneys, up O'Connell St, down Henry St. to a rally at Arthurs Quay Park before returning to O'Connell St. where a twenty minute sit down protest took place. The rally in the park was addressed by Joe Sheehan & Katherine Harford from organisers MAMA, Cllr. John Gilligan(IND), Ron Byrne(Socialist Party), Jan O'Sullivan T.D. (Labour), Pauric Malone(Sinn Féin), Mark Deane (Youth against War), Tim Hourigan(Shannon Peace Camp) and Tracey Ryan (Gluaiseacht). Not all of the speakers participated in the sit down;-) The Guards didn't interfere with the sit down which attracted first amusement and then support from the shoppers and people in town for the day who came upon it. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush reviewed the latest reports of fighting along the Iraqi frontlines on Saturday and warned Americans the war could be "longer and more difficult" than some thought. As U.S.-led forces rolled toward Baghdad, Bush convened his war council at the Camp David presidential retreat in rural Maryland and vowed to use "decisive force" to bring down the regime of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, whose fate was unclear after a Wednesday night missile strike. Gardai flew a helicopter sufficiently close to the lorry carrying speakers at Dublin's Antiwar march today to obscure the public address system. A protester complained that the speeches were being drowned out to the senior officer on the march and were assured that the helicopter would be moved. On Radio Free Eireann, NYC today, axtivist Mary Kelly called on people to go into garda stations and demand that prosecutions be begun against the criminals Ahern and Harney for violation of Aricles 28 and 29 of the constitution. Ms.Kelly also said that the behavior of Sinn Fein was despicable and they did not have the courage of their convictions.
